My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

We need everyone to read Cordelia’s story and help us find her the most amazing forever home possible. She is 4 years old and is one of the sweetest dogs you will ever meet. She was found as a stray down south with a serious and painful wound on her back leg. X-rays later revealed that she had been shot (you read that correctly). Our hearts were shattered at the thought of all she has been through. Miraculously, the bullet missed any critical structures that would have required amputation. She is now finishing up her healing process here with us and is doing beautifully. Here’s the incredible part: despite everything she’s been through, Cordelia’s heart is still wide open and full of love. She is extremely sweet, gentle, and affectionate. She leans into people like she’s been waiting her whole life for someone to tell her she’s safe. Introductions to other dogs have gone well and she approaches new friends with calm curiosity. Cordelia doesn’t carry anger or resentment and she doesn’t carry fear the way you might expect. What she DOES carry is hope. This dog deserves to be shown what love looks like and we will settle for nothing but the best. Soft beds, kind hands, patient guidance, and a family that sees her not for what happened to her, but for who she is. Stop by to meet Cordelia and help her write the next chapter of her story.

More about this rescue

We are a volunteer, 501(c)(3) non-profit, no-kill shelter.
Visit our website at HeartofRI.org for an in depth view of our policies, procedures, fees, and exactly what they include.

Unfortunately, due to past issues with landlords/housing/insurance, a restricted breed policy is in place for Bully breed/Pit Bull type dogs. This means that you must own your home and provide proof of homeownership to adopt a Bully breed/Pit Bull dog or puppy. While we understand that this may be an inconvenience, it is necessary to help reduce the number of devastated dogs being returned.  We apologize for the inconvenience.
