My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Dembe (and his litter brother Diesel) are being surrendered due to a medical condition of one of their owners.

Dembe is a 15-month-old, PB Chocolate Lab.  He is UTD on rabies and all shots with the exception of Bordetella.  He is crate trained and is still crated at bed time; he will come with his crate.  He is not neutered and will need to be adopted with a sterilization agreement.

He is good with children and lives with a 13-year-old, he also has been around toddlers who were used to big dogs but there could be a knock down factor with small children.  He is good around other dogs and unknown around cats but does chase squirrels on his property.

Dembe grew up having 20 acres and a creek to play in and has not been walked much on a leash.  He knows his boundaries and enjoys free run of the property while out with the owners.  He loves chasing his “Chick It” ball.  He also has a fenced-in area adjacent to the house to be in when unattended by the owners.  Dembe would need a fenced yard or large yard to play in.

Dembe has never been without his brother but the owner feels he could be adopted separately or with a family with a resident dog.  He is shy initially when meeting new dogs or humans but warms up quickly.

PLEASE NOTE:  While this Lab may not be available for adoption by the time you complete the adoption process, other great Labs are always finding their way into our Rescue.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

All applicants complete an application and have a home visit before being approved to adopt. Once approved to adopt, they wait to find the right dog for their family. They are required to sign a pre-adoptive agreement and keep the dog they are matched with for a 3 week pre-adoptive period. If all goes well during that period, they sign an adoption agreement and adopt the dog. The fees vary depending on the age and altered status of the dog. We do require all dogs to be altered if they are not already and require obedience training as well

Go meet their pets

Some , but not all, of our dogs are present at events we attend throughout our coverage areas in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. For the most part, adopters do not meet a dog until they are introduced to the dog they are matched with. This introduction takes place after they have a home visit and are matched with one of our dogs and the meeting is held at a neutral location half way between the dog and the applicant.

More about this rescue

We are a labrador retriever rescue that places labs and lab mixes in new homes. We do this because we love the lab breed and want to be sure dogs in need of a new home find the right home for them.
