Dusty may be 16 years young, but she is living proof that age is truly just a number. This tiny gal is tipping the scales at 5 lbs and has absolutely no plans to slow down and is very much still enjoying life. Think of her as retired but still busy. Dusty is ready for outings, adventures, and soaking up every bit of love and sunshine the world has to offer.
Despite her petite size, Dusty loves her walks and lights up the moment her harness comes out. She’ll happily bounce, dance, and stand proudly while you get her dressed, then strut along like she owns the sidewalk. While she’s not aiming for long hikes, she adores being out and about and keeping up with the action.
Car rides are another favorite! Dusty is a true passenger princess and may even volunteer to sit in your lap if given the chance. If it were up to her, she’d be carried everywhere and happily melt into the arms of anyone willing to hold her. She is crate trained, but at this stage of life prefers the comfort of her own cozy space. When left home alone, she stays in her bedroom with soft blankets and a pee pad. She is both house trained and pad trained, though if neither option is available, she may have an accident, something we feel is only fair.
Dusty does well with other dogs and cats and coexists peacefully. She will absolutely let them know who’s boss when needed (not that she could do any harm), and she proudly runs the house with the confidence of a tiny manager who knows exactly what she wants.
She adores her people and clearly chooses a “primary person,” though she’s affectionate with anyone who earns her trust. She can be a little shy with strangers at first and may bark at the door, but she warms up quickly and understands when it’s time to settle down. Truly, Dusty is a very good chihuahua, one of the best.
Her age does not reflect her health. Even her veterinarians have been amazed by her condition. Dusty has excellent knees, healthy eyes, ears, lungs, and a perfect heart. During a recent dental, she only needed three teeth removed and still has many many left that are now bright and shiny clean! She eats well, drinks well, and continues to thrive.
Dusty is an exceptional senior looking for someone who wants a devoted, easygoing little companion by their side. If you’re open to loving a dog whose heart is far younger than her years, Dusty is ready to show you just how special she truly is.

More about this rescue
Hope Ranch Animal Sanctuary is a non-profit organization; obtained our 501(c)3 in 2011 - ID #27-0810495
Located in Anza, CA
Kathy Haley had originally started as a rescue for abused and neglected large animals such as donkeys, llamas, alpacas, pigs, and more. At the time, she was also a volunteer at a dog rescue. After learning about the importance of rescue work, Kathy saw an opportunity to help by employing her own ideas about animal welfare, rescue and care taking the "whole animal," mind, body and spirit into consideration. A few years later, she met Lisa Ashe. Kathy and Lisa had so many ideas, dreams, and goals in common. They instantly clicked and that was when Hope Ranch Animal Sanctuary, a non-profit organization, was born in 2011 and have been going strong since.
At Hope Ranch Animal Sanctuary, we are dedicated to taking in abused, neglected, and euthanasia listed animals that deserve a second chance and need us the most.
All of our animals are:
Spayed/Neutered
Current on all vaccines
Rabies Vaccinated
Dewormed
Micro-chipped (lifetime registered & paid)
Received all proper medical care when needed (surgeries, dentals, medications, grooming, etc)
While many of our animals are sanctuary or "permanent residents", we do have lots of adoptable pets who are patiently waiting for their forever homes.
We are unique in the fact that our dogs do not live in kennels; instead they live with us in our home on about 5 acres of property located in Anza, CA or they are in foster homes in and around the Temecula, CA area. They have full access to our home and property and sleep inside with us at night.
This ensures that our pets are well adjusted and perfectly suited to become a part of your family.
Because the sanctuary is also our home, we do not have regular public visiting hours but we do have many visitors.
We just have to arrange it to fit the schedule of our animals, ourselves, and you.
