IN-SHELTER NOTES & IDEAL HOME
SIZE: 19 lbs.
HOME TYPE: House or Townhouse. Benito would not do well in a large and busy apartment building, as he is on the shy and nervous side.
CHILDREN: No- Benito would do best in a calm and patient adult-only home or a home that contains near adult aged children (older teenagers) who have had previous dog experience.
CATS & SMALL ANIMALS: Yes- Cats potentially compatible with slow proper introduction.
OTHER DOGS: Yes- Dogs potentially compatible.
ACTIVITY/ENERGY LEVEL: Moderate to High; will need daily exercise, enrichment and mental stimulation but enjoys some daily down time as well.
HUMAN COMPATIBILTY: First time dog owner possible, as long as prepared to work on difficult behaviours such as nervousness, anxiety and touch sensitivity.
TRAINING REQUIREMENTS/NEEDS: At least two in-person training session to work on socialization, basic training, manners, touch sensitivy and general anxiety.
HUMAN SOCIAL IN SHELTER: Very human social once he is comfortable!
FAVOURITE THINGS: Enjoys interacting with people and is food motivated.

Come into the Centre and if you see a pet you like, you are able to do a "Meet and Greet" with that pet. Spend some time in alone with the pet or take a dog out for a short walk. If you are still interested in adopting the pet you can meet with one of our Adoption Counsellors who will have you fill out and application and will ask you some questions about the environment in which you live. If you seem like a wonderful match and your envirnoment meets the needs of the pet then your application should be approved!
