My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This 2-year-old Shih Tzu weighs just 12 pounds, but his personality is larger than life. Maximus is house-trained and enjoys the freedom of roaming the home — his foster doesn’t use a crate, and he happily snoozes wherever he pleases, whether that’s curled up in a cozy dog bed, tucked into his foster’s bed, or stretched out in his favorite sunny spot.

Maximus is a wonderful mix of playful and cuddly. He enjoys brief walks, time exploring the yard, playing with his toys, and even hopping in the car for a ride. After a little fun, he’s more than ready to settle in close for snuggles. He absolutely loves treats and will happily be your loyal little shadow throughout the day.

He’s good with other dogs and cats and has been described as friendly, outgoing, happy, playful, quiet, and incredibly loyal. While he hasn’t been exposed to children in our care, he would likely do well with respectful kids who understand how to interact gently with a small dog.

Maximus may only have one eye, but it doesn’t slow him down one bit! He navigates life with confidence and joy, never missing a beat. His foster describes him as “such a sweetheart” who truly just loves being near his people.

His minimum adoption fee is $300 plus a $15 fee, if 4 months or older, for rabies registration for McLean County residents.

He has been neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, heartworm checked, dewormed, and is on flea and heartworm preventatives.
