Akino is an easygoing 11-year-old Alaskan Husky who walks nicely on leash and enjoys calmly exploring his surroundings. He allowed gentle greetings and mostly kept to himself while taking in the sights. Akino has a relaxed, independent nature and would make a wonderful companion for someone looking for a mellow senior friend. Come meet Akino today!
Akino is a geriatric Husky who presented very anxious during examination. He appears to be visual and responsive; however, he is not eating well and is in a thin body condition (BCS 2/9). Examination also revealed fly strike on both ear tips and signs consistent with arthritis of the thoracolumbar spine (suspected spondylosis), which can contribute to chronic discomfort and mobility challenges.
Due to his advanced age and overall condition, there is concern for a possible underlying systemic issue contributing to his weight loss and decreased appetite, which would require further diagnostics and ongoing medical evaluation. These age-related and medical concerns require continued monitoring, nutritional support, pain management, and supportive care beyond what we can consistently provide in the shelter environment.Despite his condition, Akino remains gentle and is doing his best while receiving supportive care.Akino needs a safe, compassionate placement where he can receive continued medical management, comfort-focused care, and a calm environment appropriate for a senior dog with complex needs.
This pet is at risk for euthanasia due to the level of care required, which exceeds what we can provide. If you are interested in helping, please email dasadopt@dallas.gov with your contact information so we can call you bac
