Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Tinsel is a beautiful one-and-a-half-year-old grey tabby with the softest stripes and the sweetest, most searching eyes. Beneath her timid exterior is a truly gentle soul. She doesn’t mind being held and will quietly settle into your arms, soaking up the comfort of a calm, caring touch.
Right now, Tinsel is feeling overwhelmed and unsure of the world around her. The shelter environment can be scary, and when her kennel door opens, her first instinct is to bolt to safety. But that reaction comes from fear—not from a lack of love. With patience, reassurance, and a peaceful home, Tinsel has all the potential to blossom into the affectionate, devoted companion she’s meant to be.
Tinsel would thrive in a quiet household with adopters who understand that trust takes time. A cozy hiding spot, gentle voices, and steady routines will help her feel secure. Once she knows she’s safe, you’ll see her confidence grow day by day.
She is also spayed and up to date on all her core vaccinations and monthly preventatives. If you have a kind heart and the patience to let a shy cat come out of her shell at her own pace, Tinsel is waiting to meet you. Give her the chance she deserves, and she’ll reward you with a lifetime of soft purrs and quiet devotion. Give us a call at (740) 314-5583 for more information!

More about this shelter
We are the Jefferson County Humane Society and , except for our humane officers (who are paid very nominally), we are all volunteers! Our members were instrumental in getting a local levy passed to build a new and larger shelter and the doors opened in 2011. We are currently participating in Iams Home for the Holidays Program and the Purina Pets for People grant program. We are actively pursuing other grants and recently have been asked by the county to partner with them in the operation of the new shelter. Since we are a humane society, our main focus is on getting animals spayed and neutered so there are no more homeless pets. To that end, we bring in a mobile animal surgical clinic who performs spays and neuters at a reduced rate. We are always looking for volunteers to help us in our efforts and, of course, for financial contributions (we are a non-profit, 501 (c)3) and pet adopters! Other items such as food, treats, pet carriers, cages, leashes, collars, food bowls, etc. are also ALWAYS welcomed and appreciated. Please contact us if you have an item to be donated or would like to volunteer with us to try to save some of these homeless, but very loveable, dogs!
