My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Mama, a beautiful grey-and-white sweetheart with a curious spirit and a heart full of love. At 5 years old, Mama has the perfect balance of playful energy and affectionate charm. She is the kind of cat who always wants to know what’s going on around her. New sights, new sounds, and new adventures? She’s ready to investigate! Her curiosity keeps life interesting, and she’ll happily follow you around to see what you’re up to.

Mama is also incredibly friendly. She absolutely adores head pets and will lean right in for more when you start scratching that perfect spot. She even enjoys being held from time to time, soaking up the attention from her favorite humans.

She is also spayed and up to date on her core vaccinations and monthly preventatives. With her loving personality and bright energy, Mama would make a wonderful companion for someone looking for a cat who is both affectionate and full of life. She’s ready to bring warmth, fun, and plenty of purrs into a lucky forever home.

More about this shelter

We are the Jefferson County Humane Society and , except for our humane officers (who are paid very nominally), we are all volunteers! Our members were instrumental in getting a local levy passed to build a new and larger shelter and the doors opened in 2011. We are currently participating in Iams Home for the Holidays Program and the Purina Pets for People grant program. We are actively pursuing other grants and recently have been asked by the county to partner with them in the operation of the new shelter. Since we are a humane society, our main focus is on getting animals spayed and neutered so there are no more homeless pets. To that end, we bring in a mobile animal surgical clinic who performs spays and neuters at a reduced rate. We are always looking for volunteers to help us in our efforts and, of course, for financial contributions (we are a non-profit, 501 (c)3) and pet adopters! Other items such as food, treats, pet carriers, cages, leashes, collars, food bowls, etc. are also ALWAYS welcomed and appreciated. Please contact us if you have an item to be donated or would like to volunteer with us to try to save some of these homeless, but very loveable, dogs!
