My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Cocoa Puff
1 year old Female Sealpoint Himalayan
Call foster parent for adoption fee

Cocoa Puff and her bonded companion, Hershey’s Kisses, came to us from a breeder in Northern California who could no longer keep them. At just a year old, these two are barely out of kittenhood, but as sometimes happens, they missed the nurturing, cuddling, and socialization one would wish for all kittens--especially kittens of breeds normally so receptive to human affection. Fortunately, they have spent the last three months in the home of a foster mom who has the skills required to teach shy kitties to trust a human caregiver. Time in foster care only begins the process of recovery for an abandoned cat. It is your own love that completes the healing process.

Cocoa Puff was the most fearful of several cats who came to us from the same source. She wants to be near you, watching everything you do, but is likely to scurry away if you reach out for her. She enjoys chin and ear scratches, but her adopters will need to be very patient to have this opportunity. For some cats we see in rescue, it can take months for trust to develop. Then again, when that originally frightened kitty does ultimately approach—settling cautiously into your lap after you’ve waited, conversed with her calmly, sung a hundred lullabies, day after day—what an inspiring moment that is! In the meantime, you can be assured that she has other daily sources of comfort: seeing Cocoa Puff and Hershey Kisses snuggled up on a chair or rug is distinctly heartwarming.

Because Cocoa Puff is not yet ready for a daily brushing ritual, we recommend that she be kept in a lion cut by a veterinarian or an experienced cat groomer until she is ready for more handling. Then eventually, the brush can be introduced before the coat has grown in completely. This technique habituates the cat to a gentle stroking action while the hair is still short enough for there to be no mats to work out.

Hershey and Cocoa Puff enjoy the company of other cats but would be alarmed by children. They need a peaceful home with a single person or a couple who will quietly cherish them, rejoicing in those increasingly frequent purrs that are signs of growing trust and the eventual emergence of love.

If you are touched by Cocoa Puff’s face and story, please take the time to read about Hershey’s Kisses also, and if you believe you are the one to offer these sensitive kitties the love they deserve, call their foster mom, Jennifer.
Cocoa Puff is microchipped, current on shots, negative for FIV/FeLV, and litterbox perfect.
