Story
Pharaoh is a delicate 26-pound Basenji who finds himself quite unsure and timid in new surroundings. This sweet boy often retreats to the back of his kennel, easily startled by unfamiliar noises or sudden movements. He reveals his vulnerability through his cautious actions, indicating a need for a patient and understanding adopter.Pharaoh requires a home that will allow him the space and time to adjust at his own pace, helping him learn that the world can be a safe, kind, and gentle place. While he has not yet interacted much with other animals in the shelter, our team is dedicated to gently guiding him through his fears and will continue to update on his progress.Currently awaiting his chance to find a forever home at National Mill Dog Rescue, Pharaoh is in need of a compassionate individual who understands the needs of a fearful dog. If you can provide a calm environment and a loving heart, consider adopting Pharaoh and be a pivotal part of his journey to confidence and happiness.- - - - - -Prior to being rescued, many of our dogs have experienced minimal socialization. As a result, there is often an adjustment period when learning about life as a family pet. We typically do not adopt to homes with young children. Homes with older children will be considered on an individual basis. Common skills such as house training and leash walking will often take extra time. Patience, understanding and a gentle hand are a must. The great news is, many of these dogs come around with patience and being a part of their rehabilitation is an extremely rewarding experience. Story
Hello friends! I'm a younger guy, just about a year young! I am a little nervous with new people but if you come with cookies I can be bought! I have a lot of energy and some basic manners, just offer a cookie and watch me sit! I would love a family to show me the right ways to use all my energy! Even though my ears are giant, I don't always use them...so I may need a little guidance! Call TCRAS at 719-686-7707 to schedule an appointment!

Story
From foster: Star is shining bright as she develops good leash walking skills in foster care. She is very good at "sit" and learning "fetch".  Enjoys gentle brushing and has a soft mouth for treats and toys. She is very sweet with people, but needs to learn some manners when it comes to other dogs.  *Meet and Greets are by appointment only. Please fill out an adoption application to schedule* Hey there, potential playmate! I'm Star, the petite powerhouse ready to sprinkle some athletic charm and treat-filled joy into your life.  I'm all about staying active and living life to the fullest. Whether it's a game of fetch, a brisk run, or a playful romp with other dogs, count me in! Outgoing and full of energy, I'm the pawfect partner for adventures big and small. Now, let's talk treats – they're my ultimate weakness! If you're the type who loves rewarding with tasty tidbits, we're already off to a fantastic start. I promise to dazzle you with my agility and entertain you with my playful spirit in return for those delicious treats.   Volunteer notes - Star is a super stunner! This gorgeous, perky 27lb pup is extremely athletic and has so much fun, playful energy. Star potties outside, sits when you ask her to, takes treats gently, and is an all-around A+ all-star! Make sure you have plenty of treats and gold stars for this good girl when you bring her home to your family! Star was rescued from a high kill shelter in Texas.   We have no additional back story or update for this dog at this time.  When we do, it will be updated here.  This is all the information we have currently. Approved Applicants may make the adoption fee payment by clicking donate above.  Partial adoption fees will not hold a dog. Dogs adopted with our rescue come with FREE training from #GoodPup to help you build strong bonds from the start! If upon meeting the dog of your choosing at your scheduled pickup time you find that you aren't a good match, your deposit will be fully refunded. Adoption fees include vaccines up until time of adoption, microchip, spay/neuter and 1st 30 days of free Pet insurance.  We are not affiliated with Pet First pet insurance. (you have to sign up for the insurance or it will not go into effect).  Adoption fees help cover the medical care of the animals while he or she waits for a new home, as well as food and transportation costs. These fees help to provide care for the other animals in the shelter or rescue group who may have medical bills that are much higher than any possible adoption fee. The money also acts as a donation to help support the organization as a whole, allowing the group to continue its efforts to rescue and rehome pets. The dogs in our care are fostered in Colorado, Texas, and New Mexico.  While all dogs are picked up during our scheduled times, sometimes transport dates change due to unforeseen circumstances.   More questions?  Read our FAQs here: https://4p4l.org/faqs/  Breed labels are a "best guess" by a shelter veterinarian and cannot be guaranteed.  A new study has concluded that (in layman's terms), breed assumption is NOT indicative of behavior in mixed breed dogs.  Therefore, if a dog looks presumably to be a German Shepherd breed, one cannot assume the dog will have a high prey drive.  From the study: "Although many physical traits were associated with breeds, behavior was much more variable among individual dogs. In general, physical trait heritability was a greater predictor of breed but was not necessarily a predictor of breed ancestry in mutts. Among behavioral traits, biddability—how well dogs respond to human direction—was the most heritable by breed but varied significantly among individual dogs. Thus, dog breed is generally a poor predictor of individual behavior and should not be used to inform decisions relating to selection of a pet dog" - https://www.science.org/doi/10.1126/science.abk0639 ##1910945##

Story
Really sweet shy gal found living on a mattress on the side of the road!Soraya is a very sweet and bit shy gal about 10 or 12 mos old.  She is spayed, current on vaccines and chipped.  Soraya loves other dogs, is good in the car and learns quickly.  She was found on the side of the road living on a mattress in Texas.  She came to Colorado to find a fun patient family and maybe a dog sister or brother.  Living in the house is still new to her so she will need some time and patience.  May 4, 2024, 9:09 pm
