Story
*Meet and Greets are by appointment only. Please fill out an adoption application to schedule* Hey there, potential playmate! I'm Star, the petite powerhouse ready to sprinkle some athletic charm and treat-filled joy into your life.  I'm all about staying active and living life to the fullest. Whether it's a game of fetch, a brisk run, or a playful romp with other dogs, count me in! Outgoing and full of energy, I'm the pawfect partner for adventures big and small. Now, let's talk treats – they're my ultimate weakness! If you're the type who loves rewarding with tasty tidbits, we're already off to a fantastic start. I promise to dazzle you with my agility and entertain you with my playful spirit in return for those delicious treats.   Volunteer notes - Star is a super stunner! This gorgeous, perky 27lb pup is extremely athletic and has so much fun, playful energy. Star potties outside, sits when you ask her to, takes treats gently, and is an all-around A+ all-star! Make sure you have plenty of treats and gold stars for this good girl when you bring her home to your family! Star was rescued from a high kill shelter in Texas.   We have no additional back story or update for this dog at this time.  When we do, it will be updated here.  This is all the information we have currently. Approved Applicants may make the adoption fee payment by clicking donate above.  Partial adoption fees will not hold a dog. Dogs adopted with our rescue come with FREE training from #GoodPup to help you build strong bonds from the start! If upon meeting the dog of your choosing at your scheduled pickup time you find that you aren't a good match, your deposit will be fully refunded. Adoption fees include vaccines up until time of adoption, microchip, spay/neuter and 1st 30 days of free Pet insurance.  We are not affiliated with Pet First pet insurance. (you have to sign up for the insurance or it will not go into effect).  Adoption fees help cover the medical care of the animals while he or she waits for a new home, as well as food and transportation costs. These fees help to provide care for the other animals in the shelter or rescue group who may have medical bills that are much higher than any possible adoption fee. The money also acts as a donation to help support the organization as a whole, allowing the group to continue its efforts to rescue and rehome pets. The dogs in our care are fostered in Colorado, Texas, and New Mexico.  While all dogs are picked up during our scheduled times, sometimes transport dates change due to unforeseen circumstances.   More questions?  Read our FAQs here: https://4p4l.org/faqs/  Breed labels are a "best guess" by a shelter veterinarian and cannot be guaranteed.  A new study has concluded that (in layman's terms), breed assumption is NOT indicative of behavior in mixed breed dogs.  Therefore, if a dog looks presumably to be a German Shepherd breed, one cannot assume the dog will have a high prey drive.  From the study: "Although many physical traits were associated with breeds, behavior was much more variable among individual dogs. In general, physical trait heritability was a greater predictor of breed but was not necessarily a predictor of breed ancestry in mutts. Among behavioral traits, biddability—how well dogs respond to human direction—was the most heritable by breed but varied significantly among individual dogs. Thus, dog breed is generally a poor predictor of individual behavior and should not be used to inform decisions relating to selection of a pet dog" - https://www.science.org/doi/10.1126/science.abk0639 ##1910945##

Story
Itsy is a 7 month old curious and easy going lover of life. She is crate trained and prefers being in her crate when her humans are gone. She loves to explore the outdoors and loves to zoom when she has open space. She likes snow, leaves and sticks. She’s still getting the hang of being on leash. She prefers to carry her leash in her mouth and needs reminders not to pull. She is a social butterfly, never meets a human or dog stranger. She is a gentle playmate to smaller dogs and will pet and put her arms around her smaller foster dog brother as if she thinks he’s adorable. She can hold her own and be respectful with larger dogs, too. She doesn’t bark much, only when she wants to play, but is not a watch dog or prey driven. She makes some fun howls and vocalizations. She has learned how to ring a bell to go outside and knows sit. She loves being held and cuddled and wants to nuzzle close up to her human when she sleeps. She is patient with nail trims and teeth brushing. She has an extraordinarily long tongue that sometimes sticks out a bit when she sleeps, and she looks like she has a smile on her face when she rests. Itsy is up to date on vaccinations, spayed, and microchipped. Apply to meet her today! Adoption fee includes the following: Spay/Neuter Rabies Vaccination Distemper / Parvo Vaccines (includes series of 3 for puppies) Bordetella Microchip with prepaid lifetime registration Deworming ##1770928##

Story
Anubis came into my life in 2009. Back then his name was Jeb and he was a Dumb Friends League transplant from Kansas City Missouri. Anubis friendly and energetic, even in his old age. He gets along well with other dogs, including his buddy Osiris who is also up for adoption. Both have been great addition to our family, but with a new job opportunity that will take me out of the state for more than a week at a time, we are looking to find a new home and a wonderful family to love Anubis as much as we have for all these years.
