Story
Meet Zuri, your personal zoomie powered bestie. At just 2 years old, this Basenji beauty is equal parts wiggle, joy, and pure happiness. She greets everyone with full body wiggles, soft, sweet eye contact, and a “hi I love you already” energy that’s impossible to resist. Zuri is a total affection sponge. She leans in for pets, soaks up attention, and lives for being close to her people. She can get a little jumpy when she’s excited but she’s easily redirected and just needs someone to help her channel all that happy energy. Think: your built-in cardio buddy with a side of cuddles. When it’s playtime, Zuri brings the party. She’s bouncy, goofy, and always ready to engage, though she’s still figuring out toys (she’ll fetch… just don’t expect a return yet). With a little encouragement, she’s going to be a playtime pro. The best part? She’s as sweet as they come. She’s also dog social, but would benefit from continued positive exposure to build her confidence and polish her play style. Zuri would thrive in a home that can match her energy, continue her training, and laugh along with her goofy, lovable personality. She can live with older kids who understand that sometimes love comes in the form of enthusiastic jumping. If you’re looking for a fun companion who will keep you smiling every single day… Zuri is your girl If you are interested in learning more contact our placement team at the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter:E: Adoption@hempsteadny.govE: Foster@hempsteadny.govE: Rescue@hempsteadny.govT. 516.785.5220Wantagh Long Island, New York#basenji #basenjiforadoption #rescuedog #dogsofnewyork #longislanddogs

Story
Meet Mallomar  Mallomar is a handsome 3-year-old, 60-lb athletic Basenji/Lab mix pup with a sleek black coat, a bright white chest, and the cutest biggest ears. He’s playful, smart, house trained and wonderfully goofy in his own ways — he loves chasing anything you throw, proudly removing squeakers from soft toys, running around outside, and working on a really good bone. Mallomar loves to be outdoors and would thrive in an active home with experienced dog owners who are home and have time to take him on walks, hikes and have  a fully fenced yard where he can run and play. He greets you warmly when you come home and makes a loving, loyal, and protective companion. He does have some handling sensitivities — he prefers not to be touched while lying down or around his mouth, ears, and paws. Because of this, he needs a home with an experienced patient dog owner and no kids or small dogs. He would also do well in a home as your only dog or with a larger female dog. The home should be an adult only house.  Mallomar really shines. He’s a loyal, athletic, outdoorsy buddy who has so much love to give when his boundaries are respected. If you’re looking for a smart, active companion who will be genuinely excited every time you walk through the door, Mallomar could be your perfect match. We require adopters to have a safe and secure backyard - not electric or Fido fences as they are not as safe at containing dogs or keeping other animals or people out. For these reasons we do not adopt to homes with electric or Fido fencing.            The adoption fee is $375, which includes age appropriate vaccines, microchip, monthly flea, tick and heart worm preventatives at time of adoption. Mallomar is neutered, up to date on vaccines and microchipped.

Story
ALL our cats and dogs are in the NY area but can be adopted out of state to the purrfect furever home.  In some cases, we can help transport.  Zani's al fresco Summer Adoptions  follow us on FB to find us this summer as we will try new locations to meet the needs of NYC and support the little stores:)         Meet Blaze: 1-Year-Old 45lbs  Island Boy with Big PersonalityFrom Puerto Rico with Love (and a Solid Bark) Blaze with a family with two kids who he adore. Unfortunately the family is going through a divorce. Blaze is what you get when you mix a loyal guardian with a total goofball—basically, the best of both worlds if you’re ready for an adventure. This handsome fawn-and-white rescue came all the way from Puerto Rico and arrived fully housebroken (seriously, this guy knows what he’s doing). The Blaze absolutely LIVES for backyard runs—he’s got the athleticism and the boundless energy of a dog who was born to move. When he’s not zooming around like his tail’s on fire, he’s ready to flop on the couch for serious cuddle sessions. He’s equal parts protective pooch and silly companion, with a bark that’ll let you know he’s looking out for his people, but a wag that says he’s just happy to be near you.Like most young, energetic dogs, Blaze loves  toys, that random shoe you left out… it’s all fair game to him. He needs an owner who’ll give him appropriate outlets (lots of durable toys, puzzle toys, and healthy chew alternatives) and can channel that enthusiasm with exercise and training.Your Perfect Match: You’re active, you’ve got space for this boy to run, and you’re looking for a dog who’s part protector, part best friend. You understand that young dogs need patience, exercise, and boundaries—and you’re ready to invest that time. If you can give Blaze a structured home with regular exercise and training, he’ll give you loyalty, laughs, and cuddles in return. The Bottom Line: Blaze is a stunning, soulful boy with so much love to give. He deserves a home as amazing as he is. Ready to be his person?     All dogs are located in NY/NJ area All our puppies need puppy play dates/doggy facetime so we recommend homes with other pups or daily interactions to keep them tired out, happy and social.     Facebook: Zani's Furry Friends ZFF (weekly adoption event info posted there) Twitter: zanisff  Instagram: zanisfurryfriends   Dogs are spayed/neutered, UTD on age appropriate vaccines, Rabies vaxed, and microchipped (not Lyme vaxed but we seriously recommend it!)  All are in the NY/NJ area but we will adopt out of state to the purrfect home and in some cases, we can arrange transport.  Please go to our site  https://zanisfurryfriends.org  fill out an application  Many of us (cats/dogs) will be on display on Saturdays or Sundays, weather dependent--please ask by writing us at dogs@zanisfurryfriends.org and following us on FB. If you are seriously interested in adopting one of us in particular, please fill out an application early Friday so that we can be sure to be there. Otherwise we decide based on other variables. Usually we are in our foster homes so this is a bit more stressful and a slightly artificial environment but we do want to be seen and find our furever homes too.   Please consider providing a home for more than one dog, especially if you are considering adopting a puppy. Dogs are pack animals and very much enjoy as well as need other dog company to learn to play, socialize and be good companion animals to people. The upside to this is that you won't feel as guilty leaving them alone and you get twice the love. Please come! And if you can't adopt, maybe you can foster or volunteer, and you can always donate! If you want to know about cats/dogs specifically being shown at our adoption locations, please email us info@zanisfurryfriends.org closer to the date so we know your interest and will make every effort to have that pet at the event or let you know how and where you can meet.  It is extemely helpful and speeds up adoption if the application is filled out prior to visiting us so please do that before coming to our weekend events. Our weekend locations are: Saturdays or Sundays, weather dependent  Follow us on FB, Zani's Furry Friends ZFF, for latest updates. Usually we are in our foster homes so all this is a bit more stressful but we do want to be seen and find our furever homes. Please come! And if you can't adopt, maybe you can foster or volunteer. And you can always donate:) Cats and Dogs are spayed/neutered, UTD w/ all age appropriate shots and microchipped. Cats are feline combo tested for FIV/FeLV; dogs are heartworm tested and rabies vax'd, (NOT lyme vaxed but we seriously recommend it); rabbits are spayed/neutered. Please fill out an application and email to: For Cats: cats@zanisfurryfriends.org For Dogs: dogs@zanisfurryfriends.org For Rabbits: nyc.acc.rabbits@gmail.com. Please visit our website zanisfurryfriends.org. Story
This beautiful pup is DOUGIE and he's such a good boy! He's a Basenji mix who is 1 year & half - 2years old & fully grown at 46 pounds! He has beautiful golden coloring and one brown eye and one blue eye which makes him even more special. He's a super sweet boy and was a Volunteer favorite at the Shelter we rescued him from. They took him on lots of field trips and he absolutely loved them! We've sprung Dougie from a Shelter and he's living with a great Foster family now who have other dogs so it's like doggie camp for him! He's a lover boy and wonderful with everyone he meets and other dogs too. He's also a smart cookie....we have lots of videos with him showing how he sits so politely waiting for his treats! He'll be a great family dog and a great companion to adopters who like to go hiking or bring their pup on errands with them. And, if there's a pup-cup included he's all in! We're looking for a wonderful family who have a fenced yard so he can play and take lots snoozes in the sun. He'd do great with doggie siblings but could easily be a solo pup because he loves to hang our with his peeps. He's healthy, up to date on all his vaccinations and so ready to be part of a family! Reach out to Long Road Home Rescue (lrhrescue@gmail.com) to get lots more info, pics and videos of this great guy!

Story
This is a Courtesy Listing and has no affiliation with Petrescue. Please contact the owner listed below directly. Toby is a 6-year-old neutered Basenji who is up to date on all vaccinations and looking for a special home that understands his needs and will give him the love and stability he deserves. He is completely house-trained and spends much of his day happily curled up in his cozy bed, catching up on naps. While he enjoys relaxing indoors, he also needs an active home where he can get regular exercise. He loves running around the backyard on a long lead, playing fetch, and during the winter, you'll find him leaping into the air to catch snowballs—his absolute favorite game! Toby cannot be off-leash and should always be in a securely managed environment. He is also afraid of water and does not enjoy baths. Around the people he knows and trusts, Toby is a sweet, affectionate cuddle bug. He loves curling up in laps, giving kisses, and spending quality time with his family. Having a safe space of his own is very important to him. His crate, complete with a soft bed, serves as his cozy retreat where he feels secure and comfortable. Toby warms up to new people fairly quickly when introductions are calm and positive, especially if they come bearing some of his favorite treats! Cheese, peanut butter, bananas, and just about any kind of meat are sure ways to win him over. He also enjoys chewing on bully sticks and stuffed Kongs. Because of his behavioral needs, Toby requires an experienced and understanding home. He has fear-based aggression, food aggression, and guarding behaviors that will need continued management and respect for his boundaries. He would do best as the only pet in the home, as he is not compatible with other dogs or cats. Toby does well with respectful children ages 8 and older. His ideal home is one that is patient, calm, active, and committed to helping him feel safe and secure. In return, he will reward his trusted people with loyalty, affection, cuddles, and plenty of personality. More than anything, we want to find Toby a loving, cage-free home where he can continue to thrive and enjoy the happy life he deserves.
