F PERFECTION HAD EARS, THEY WOULD LOOK LIKE SUKI’SMeet Suki—a five-year-old mixed-breed girl who arrived at HSKL as an unclaimed stray and has been winning everyone over ever since.Honestly, she is about as close to the complete package as it gets.Suki is friendly with every person she meets, walks beautifully on leash and generally ignores other dogs—even when they are barking at her. She enjoys greeting friendly dogs at the shelter and seems especially fond of the boys. She has the perfect energy level: ready for walks, playtime and sudden bursts of very impressive zoomies, but equally happy to settle in for cuddles and couch time.Suki’s list of qualifications includes:Best ears in town—possibly the entire provinceFriendly, affectionate and completely lovableExcellent leash mannersSocial and polite around friendly dogsKeeps her kennel clean and does her business outsideKnows “sit” and “paw”Loves running, playing and chasing toysHappily trades zoomies for cuddles when playtime is overRides well in the car when safely securedOccasionally tries to help drive if she isn’t buckled inWants to be included in everything her people are doingSuki sometimes needs a reminder to keep all four paws on the floor when she is excited, but she listens well. She enjoys treats—although she would like everyone to understand that treats are optional and affection is not.SUKI’S IDEAL HOMESuki would be a fantastic choice for a first-time dog owner or a family looking for an affectionate, well-rounded companion. Her ideal home would include:People who want a dog involved in everyday family lifeDaily walks, playtime and room for the occasional zoomie outbreakA comfortable couch and humans available for cuddlingA friendly, compatible dog may be a good match following a proper introductionA cat-free home, as Suki becomes very interested when cats run and would likely chaseA seat-belt tether or secure crate for safe car ridesContinued positive reinforcement to polish her already lovely mannersSuki arrived as a stray, but she clearly knows how to be someone’s dog. She is loving, social, fun and ready to fit herself right into a family. The only real mystery is how a dog this wonderful is still waiting.

Canela is a gorgeous, brindle basenji/dachshund mix. She was found as a stray on the streets of Costa Rica. It wasn't safe so a local rescue took her into their care. Canela is 3 years old, playful with dogs, friendly with everyone, no cats as Canela likes to chase, and simply needs a forever home. She is spayed, utd vaccinations, dewormed, microchipped, Snap 4dx negative, and vet checked. If interested, please email dcdgavel@gmail.com for an adoption application.
