Meet Arthur! He is a handsome 2-year-old with a heart as big as his floppy ears! This friendly, outgoing boy has never met a stranger and absolutely loves being around people. If you're looking for a loyal companion who enjoys attention, adventures, and being part of the family, Arthur may be your perfect match. Arthur is an active, playful guy who still has plenty of puppy spirit. He loves spending time outdoors, enjoys exploring the yard, and walks nicely on a leash. Whether it's a neighborhood stroll or simply hanging out with his people, Arthur is happiest when he's included. Arthur gets along with other dogs and genuinely wants to be everyone's friend. However, he's a bit of a social butterfly who doesn't always recognize when another dog has had enough playtime. Because of his enthusiastic personality, he would do best with a playful canine companion who enjoys wrestling and romping, or as an only dog where he can soak up all the attention. He would not be a good fit with an older or more reserved dog that prefers peace and quiet. Arthur is crate trained and settles in nicely when it's time to relax. With his affectionate personality, playful spirit, and love for being with his people, Arthur has all the makings of a wonderful companion for the right family. Meet Oscar! He is an incredibly resilient 9-year-old whose determination shines through every single day. When Oscar came to SBR, he had lost the use of his back legs. His family loved him very much but made the heartbreaking decision to surrender him because they could no longer afford the specialized medical care he needed. Just two days after arriving at SBR, Oscar underwent spinal surgery. While the neurologist repaired what could be addressed, much of what was discovered were chronic, long-standing changes to his spine. His journey isn't over, but it is filled with hope. Oscar has begun physical therapy and is working hard to learn to walk again. His neurological team is optimistic that he will regain the ability to walk, although his gait will likely never be completely normal. If you've ever met a determined basset, you'll understand Oscar perfectly—he's stubborn in all the best ways and refuses to let anything slow him down! Despite everything he's been through, Oscar remains one of the sweetest boys you'll ever meet. He gets along well with his foster sisters (as long as they don't come racing past him!), absolutely loves squeaky toys, and still tries his best to "chase" the lizards that visit the patio. His joyful spirit and zest for life are truly inspiring. Oscar still has more medical care ahead of him, including a much-needed dental procedure and neuter surgery. For now, however, his focus—and ours—is helping him regain his mobility and continue making progress one step at a time. Oscar's story is one of resilience, perseverance, and hope. We can't wait to watch him continue proving that, with love, determination, and the right care, amazing things are possible.

Meet Norris! At just 4 months old, Norris is already showing what a smart and social pup he is. He would thrive in a forever home with an active, playful dog, as he absolutely loves having friends and playing with them. Norris enjoys being part of the action and is happiest when he has a buddy to romp around with. A securely fenced yard is required so he can safely run, explore, and burn off his puppy energy.This bright young boy already knows “sit,” will sit and wait politely for his food bowl, uses a doggie door, and has mastered using a ramp to get in and out of his foster mom’s bed — also known as the big dog bed. He sleeps snuggled up all night without accidents, and on the rare occasion he needs a midnight potty break, he will wake his foster mom to let her know.Norris is doing great with handling, is good for nail trims, and hasn’t shown any fear of thunderstorms. He is currently working on polishing his potty training and learning to take treats gently. He has also shown that he doesn’t need to be crated when his foster mom goes out, even for longer periods of time.Like many curious puppies, Norris is discovering the world around him — including the kitchen garbage can and the exciting possibility of counter surfing. His new family should be ready to stay one step ahead of this clever, growing pup. Norris is a sweet, affectionate, and playful youngster who is ready to bring fun, snuggles, and a little bit of puppy mischief to his forever home.

Meet Roscoe! This gorgeous boy is estimated to be around 3–5 years old, and he not only has the looks, he has the sweetest personality too. Roscoe was found as a stray and ended up in a county shelter before Suncoast Basset Rescue got the call to help. While we are not exactly sure of his age, Roscoe definitely seems to be on the younger side. His teeth are in great shape, and he appears to be healthy and well cared for overall. Even better, he is a very good boy — well behaved, rides nicely in the car, and gets along well with kids and other dogs. At this time, we are not sure how he does with cats. Roscoe is handsome, sweet, and already showing everyone what a wonderful companion he is.

As her family has grown to include two young children, Ellie Mae has found it increasingly difficult to adjust to the busy household. She is an independent basset who enjoys affection on her own terms and would be happiest in a home where her boundaries are respected. Because of this, her family made the difficult and loving decision to find her a home better suited to her personality and needs. Ellie Mae gets along well with other dogs and has lived successfully with another female basset for many years, although she prefers that meals and treats remain her own. She has not been tested with cats and would do best in a home without children. Ellie Mae is looking for a family that will appreciate her gentle spirit, respect her independence, and give her the love and stability she deserves. In return, she’ll provide plenty of basset charm, companionship, and devotion.

After spending her entire life with the only family she had ever known, Maddy was surrendered to SBR due to illness in the family. This sweet senior is understandably a little confused and heartbroken as she tries to adjust to all the changes around her. Even so, Maddy has been handling everything with quiet grace and kindness. Her foster family is giving her lots of love and reassurance while helping her understand that she is safe, secure, and cared for. Maddy may need a little time to fully settle in, but underneath it all is a loyal, affectionate girl who simply wants comfort, patience, and a soft place to land. We know that with love and stability, this precious senior will shine again.
