Hi, I am Carmel! My foster dad says I am the most affectionate and loving girl! I love to cuddle up next to him and sometimes be a lap dog. He has taught me many new skills and I quickly learned to use the doggy door. Car rides are a favorite activity along with leash walks and playing with my foster brother. I have excellent house manners and am fully housetrained. Everyone that meets me tells me how sweet I am, and I have overheard them tell others that also. I would love a yard with a fence to play in and if you have another dog for me to play with, that would be nice too. I just love kids and I bet they would like me also because I have a calm nature but I'm playful too. I am possibly Beagle/terrier mix. Thankfully, kind souls would drop by, leaving me food and their hopes for a better life. One day, a persistent and resourceful lady decided to play her "pawn" and orchestrated my escape from that grim existence. Since then, I've been living with her and her doggy (and human) family. But now, I'm eagerly searching for my own forever family. Let's talk quirks. I'm a cheerful guy, but I've got some personal space boundaries. I'm protective of my face, so a home with adults or older, dog-savvy kids is my ideal match. I'm also a bit of a goofball and adore the company of other dogs. Now, I might not instantly become your best buddy; I take time to trust and get comfortable in my surroundings. But trust me, the patience will be worth it. I'm brimming with love and loyalty, just waiting for the right family to share it with. Here's the good news - I'm house and crate trained, proving that, yes, young dogs can indeed learn new tricks. Oh, and there's more - I'm pretty chill around cats, though a gentle introduction is wise. And I've been curious and respectful around a human baby, so that's a plus. One thing to note, though, is that I've had some reservations around men. Despite two years together, I haven't quite warmed up to my human's fianc and have snapped at him a few times. So, it might be best if I find a home without men. During a short stay with Kathy, I was a little shy but kept to myself. All pups under the age of 6wks will not be available for adoption until the rescue feels they are ready to leave. All those who are interested are welcome to apply. Once approved, you will be asked to put down a $100 deposit to hold the pup. Deposits are nonrefundable, unless NovaStar Rescue finds the dog is no longer adoptable. All deposits will go directly toward adoption fees.  Foster-to-adopt option is available on a case by case circumstance.  All dogs have age appropriate vaccines including Distemper, Parvo, and Rabies. All dogs are spayed or neutered, and wormed for parasites. Older puppies and adults are tested for heartworms and treated if found to be positive. NovaStar is a 501C3 non-profit rescue that receives no monetary help from local, state or federal entities. All adoption fees go straight to our vets to help pay for the veterinary care and other expenses related to the care of all the dogs in the rescue. Other than adoption fees, NovaStar is financed exclusively by donations and an occasional grantAdoption fees: Adults 1 year and older: $150Seniors 6 years and older: $75Puppies 0 to 6 months old: $295 to $350, dependent on breedPuppies 6 months to 1 year: $200Transport is available from Arkansas with stops in Tennessee, Pennsylvania, NY, NJ, and Connecticut.
