Story
Meet Bonita!
Bonita was surrendered to the San Diego Humane Society by her owner for chasing after the resident cats. Poor Bonita was terrified at the shelter, and we scooped her up on March 11th to give her a fresh start as a Frosted Face. Bonita is 9 years old and weighs 30 lbs.
Bonita is a shy but very sweet girl who walks nicely on leash, rides quietly in the car, and as you can see in the video, gently takes treats. She is also a polite restaurant guest!
Bonita went on a two-week Frosted Fling, and being in a calm home environment helped her decompress. Once she has the security of a forever home, we know she will continue to become more confident.
Bonita's Fling Mom shares:
"Bonita is a sweet, fun dog that would be a great addition to any family. She has a funny, sassy personality and will let you know if you are not making her dinner or getting her a treat fast enough! She does not guard her food, and I was able to leave kibble out for her and my dog to free feed.
Bonita was very comfortable with me, my husband, and child. However, when I wasn't home, she tended to go upstairs and hide a little bit. She was also comfortable in our house and in the backyard exploring on her own, but she was nervous walking on leash. If we went to a walk from the house, she would try to turn around and pull back to the house. With time and patience, I'm sure that will change.
Once Bonita gets to know a person, she uses them as a comfort when she is in places that she doesn't know. One of the times we tried to go to a park for a walk she just went underneath a bench and sat at my feet instead of walking.
Bonita enjoys getting belly rubs and playing with balls and toys. She does not have separation anxiety when home alone and is potty trained. She didn't have a single accident during our two weeks together. She can go up and down stairs on her own, but with her short legs, she needs help getting up onto the furniture and will sleep next to you if you let her. If you help Bonita onto your bed, she loves to sleep under the covers, which is adorable! Otherwise, she is fine with sleeping on a dog bed.
Bonita's previous owner surrendered her because she would bark at and chase the cat. Yes, on occasion, she barked at my cat, but her tail was wagging at the same time, so I'm not sure it was aggression or play. I lean towards play. At times, Bonita would hang out within a foot or two of my cat, and it was fine.
Bonita is super sweet and snuggly and was great at chilling with our family. If you are looking for a lay around the house, mellow homebody, Bonita is your gal!"
Be sure to watch the adorable video of Bonita playing with her tennis ball!
Bonita is back on-site and ready for a forever family that will be patient with her as she learns the world isn't so scary with them by her side. Might you be the family she needs?
Come meet sweet Bonita on Saturday and Sunday between 10:00 and 1:00 during Open House!
