Meet Hansel! Hansel is a 8 year old Beagle mix. Hansel is sweet and loves people. Hansel needs a home with a fence and plenty of room to run and smell with that beagle nose! Hansel is working on house training and some basic manners. If you would like to make Hansel a part of your family, fill out an application at www.barktownrescue.org.  HANSEL'S ADOPTION FEE IS $170The shelter software system requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable so for most of our dogs we are only guessing at the dog's predominant breed or breed mix. We strongly encourage you to select your new pet by looking at each dog's individual personality and pet qualities rather than relying on a breed label that is only our best guess.    Our adoption fees vary from $150 and up.  All of our dogs are up to date on vaccines, heart worm preventives, and flea/tick medication, and will be spayed/neutered prior to adoption. SPECIAL NEEDSMeet Stewart! UPDATE: June 2, 2021- In December of 2020, Stewart suffered a ruptured disc and has spinal surgery. It left him unable to walk, but now that he is healed, he is doing therapy and regaining strength and starting to walk. Right now, Stewart is special needs and has wheels to help him. He will need a special home that can handle special needs and continue therapy so he can fully walk again.  Stewart is an 8 year old Beagle. Stewart came to us emaciated, but he is now healthy and ready to be adopted! Stewart needs a home that will be patient and work with him on house training and socializing. Stewart is good with dogs his size and prefers female companions over males. He also needs a fenced yard where he cannot escape, and his “beagle nose” get him into trouble. He would not do well in a subdivision, apartment, or townhome. He is very vocal so a place with a little more land would be more suitable. Sairah is a Beagle/Blue Heeler Mix, Female, and is around 3 years old. She is a family type dog. She loves to be outside a lot but has been inside since we have had her. She would do well with a family with children preferably older due to the fact that she is very hyper and jumpy. She doesn't realize how big she really is. She loves children and to play. She is in need of a home due to health issues with owner. She is a medium sized dog with a lot of strength. She has not been spayed but has had a litter of puppies last year. She does need a lot of attention and room to run preferably a fenced in yard would be an ideal option or the ability to take her for walks. I am looking for her to find a loving home.

Charlotte has been adopted. Charlotte is not your every day run of the mill beagle. She is what you call a Blue Tick Beagle. She is not hyper but she is not lazy either. She is a funny little girl as she will keep you laughing with her quirky little antics. She is just delightful to be around. She is potty trained to outside and also puppy pads. She is leashed and crate trained. She is however selective about other dogs she can get along with so we recommend her being in an only dog home. She is great with kids and people. Please give us a call to meet her so you can see what a special girl she is. Charlotte will be forever grateful for your interest.

Dixie is a sweetheart that just wants to love you and be loved in return. She was abused and as a result had her back broken. She recently received a new doggie wheelchair and is learning how to get around. She will require someone with patience and the ability to care for her long term. We believe she is a medium size lab/beagle mix and is approximately 3 years old. She is good around children, cats, and most dogs. Dixie has had her preliminary vaccines, is spayed, and microchipped.
