Story
Outspoken October is one of the beagles we have been caring for since January 29th, when they left a life of abuse behind them, came into our care to await a change in their legal ownership, and learned to snuggle, play, and get to be a dog with a GOOD life!October is extremely active, and is go-go-go when she`s with the other beagles. This girl wants to play NON-STOP, to the point of annoying her dog friends with her puppy-like socialization skills. She would do great in a multi-dog home because of how much she loves other dogs, but also so they can take turns tolerating her. She needs a person who can help her take breaks, and dial down the intense fun. When not playing, she wants to be busy doing SOMETHING. Sturdy enrichment toys or shredding boxes is one good way to keep her brain active, and anything involving her beagle nose is a good workout! October can be timid when seeing new people, sights, or sounds, so may not do well in a household with children. October has learned to walk on a leash, is crate trained, keeps her kennel clean during the day (with lots of outside time), but is not clean through the night. (Keep in mind, these dogs were living on wire floors of open cages above the ground, so that they would just toilet whenever, and it would fall through to the pile of feces below). A 5-week Good Manners training course is included in October`s $350.00 adoption fee. Please call the Adoption Center at 802-476-3811, or email info@centralvermonthumane.org, to schedule a time to talk to an adoption counselor about her, and to determine if you should meet October.

Story
Indiana Jones seeks an experienced dog adopter to take him home. This juvenile boy shows many of what we would call “herding” behaviors. In his prior home, he would be nippy with the children of the household, herd them around, and even take their shoes off their feet! We have been channeling his herding desires into more appropriate pastimes, such as using a herding ball in our yards. He has no prior experience with felines, but with his neediness to want to herd, should go to a cat free home. In his prior home, he did fine with another canine friend but we have not tried him with another CVHS canine yet. Indiana, while looking for his next adventure, does not handle car rides without an upset stomach, so he seeks a homebody, not a world traveler. He can be a little cautious meeting new humans, so his meeting with potential adopters might take a couple visits before everyone is comfortable. Indiana Jones really needs a home that can provide lots of outlets for his high energy, and continue working with him with positive reinforcement training. He is doing great with his leash walking!A 5-week Good Manners training course is included in Indiana Jones`s $350.00 adoption fee. Please call the Adoption Center at 802-476-3811, or email info@centralvermonthumane.org, to schedule a time to talk to an adoption counselor about him, and to determine if you should meet Indiana Jones.

Sweet September is one of the beagles we have been caring for since January 29th, when they left a life of abuse behind them, came into our care to await a change in their legal ownership, and learned to snuggle, play, and get to be a dog with a GOOD life! This sweetie has had the greatest change while with us, going from unsure and fearful, to really blossoming with people and dogs. September is very people oriented, and very affectionate. She`s not much interested in toys, but enjoys the play groups with the other beagles; she especially loves February. She has recently met some of our other dogs here, and done well with them. She would probably love to live kids, especially if they will give her non-stop affection. She`s learned to walk on a leash, is crate trained, keeps her kennel clean during the day (with lots of outside time), but is not clean through the night. (Keep in mind, these dogs were living on wire floors of open cages above the ground, so that they would just toilet whenever, and it would fall through to the pile of feces below). Story
Tiny Tulip is one of the beagles we helped to rescue on January 29th, when they left a life of abuse behind them, came into our care to await a change in their legal ownership, and learned to snuggle, play, and get to be a dog with a GOOD life!Tulip was able to spend the winter in a foster home, and she did well with children, dogs, and cats. She cannot live anywhere near chickens! She loves to play with dogs, and though timid and aloof with people initially, she warms up quickly, and especially enjoys couch cuddle time! Tulip has learned to walk on a leash, is crate trained, and in the foster home she made huge improvements with house training -- never pooped in the home, and did well not peeing inside, as long as she got lots of opportunities to go out. (Keep in mind, these dogs were living on wire floors of open cages above the ground, so that they would just toilet whenever, and it would fall through to the pile of feces below). A 5-week Good Manners training course is included in Tulip`s $350.00 adoption fee.
