Since then, he has spent more than 800 days waiting for another chance. But those days haven’t been wasted. We know Dwight now in a way we never could have when he was that young puppy, and he has grown into one incredibly smart, loyal and loving dog.A DNA test on one of Dwight’s siblings revealed that they are 64% Doberman, and that Doberman brain definitely showed up in Dwight. He LOVES to learn. He is extremely treat motivated, picks up new skills quickly, and recently attended his very first group training class. He continues to impress us with what he can do when someone gives him direction and something to work that big brain of his.Dwight is house trained, accustomed to living indoors, and currently spends his time in a foster home rather than at the shelter. He is dog friendly and loves having canine friends. Cats, however, are a definite no for Dwight.With his people, Dwight is affectionate, silly and an absolute snuggler. Once you are part of his circle, he loves you BIG. He also has natural guarding instincts and can be protective of his people and home. He will bark at unfamiliar people, so he needs an adopter who understands that part of him and is willing to continue giving him the structure, training and guidance that have helped him make so much progress.He isn’t the dog for every home.But we don’t need every home.After more than 800 days, we just need his home.Dwight needs someone who sees the intelligence behind those big brown eyes, appreciates his loyalty instead of expecting him to be everybody’s best friend, keeps him active and engaged, and understands that the relationship you build with a dog like Dwight is earned.And once you earn it?
