Story
Star is quirky, a little shy, and very sweet!Star Star is a gentle, high-anxiety dog who carries a great deal of fear, especially around unfamiliar people and new environments. She is not aggressive at all—just deeply unsure. With the people she trusts, Star becomes a loving, snuggly, deeply devoted companion. But she will not become your dog overnight. Like Jackson, she is a project dog: a dog who needs patience, calm energy, and time to build trust at her own pace. At Pets Return Home, our dogs live in a free-ranging pack structure. That setup helps many dogs flourish—but not Star. Because she is fearful, the more confident dogs often bully or push her, making it difficult for her to relax, feel safe, or grow. This constant pressure keeps her in a state of hypervigilance. A quiet, stable, predictable home will give Star the breathing room she needs to finally feel secure and make real progress. When Star feels safe, her true personality shines. She becomes affectionate, playful, and wonderfully loyal. She loves gentle one-on-one times, quiet snuggles, peaceful yard time, and the comfort of a calm human she trusts. She is leash-trained, crate-trained, and has excellent house manners. She also gets along well with most dogs, making her a nice fit for a calm multi-pet home. If you can offer Star a peaceful environment, patient understanding, and a steady routine, you will genuinely be saving her life. We will support you through her entire transition and for as long as you and Star need us. She deserves a home where she can breathe, settle, and grow into the dog she was always meant to be. Adopting Star means committing to a process—but your patience will directly transform her future. Once she trusts you, her devotion is deep, gentle, and unwavering. Back Story Star came to Pets Return Home in 2020 with her brother, Bolt, after being rescued from a severe hoarding situation involving 50 dogs. They lived in crates inside a 750-square-foot house, in crates far too small and with no opportunity to move freely. Star and Bolt were born in that home, and due to extreme neglect, Star became pregnant while confined in a crate with her brother. When the rescue operation took place, all the dogs—including Star’s puppies—were saved. The two puppies and Bolt were adopted quickly, but Star remained fearful, cautious, and emotionally shut down due to her early trauma. Over time, she has grown, but her upbringing left her anxious and extremely slow to trust. Star interacts appropriately with people she knows, prefers calm environments, enjoys outdoor time, is fully crate- and house-trained, and is compatible with most dogs. Her closest dog friend is Jackson—another anxious soul who understands her. Behavior Profile Once Star opens her heart, you discover a gentle, sweet companion who loves quiet affection, cozy snuggles, and slow, peaceful times with her person. She has excellent house manners, enjoys calm routines, and is leash- and crate-trained. She begins her journey with shyness, but with patient care, she transforms into a loving, loyal friend. ADOPTION PENDING!!! Calling all Therapy Dog Lovers!!! 🐾🩷🐾 Introducing Luna! Luna is a very sweet, calm, talented and petite 30-pound, 7-year-old German Shepherd mix. This little Lady has a lot going for her! She knows basic commands - sit, stay, down, drop it, and come. She is house-trained, doggy-door-trained, walks excellent on leash and loves riding in the car. She enjoys her daily walks and hiking on forest trails. She is also the perfect companion at a café or dog-friendly restaurant. She is not a "barker" but will bark when someone knocks on the front door. She calms quickly and is happy to greet friends into her home. She loves to cuddle on the couch but also spends time during the day on her bed. Luna’s favorite play toys are her Squirrel and Kong toy filled with treats which she enjoys tossing around to make the treats fall out. When it's time for bed, she is told to "Get your toy" and she'll trot off to find her squirrel and bring it to bed with her. In addition to being great with all humans, Luna is good with other female and male dogs. It is unknown how she is with cats. She will try and chase Squirrels when walking on leash. Luna is currently registered with her owner as a "Pet Therapy Team" through Alliance of Therapy Dogs. They volunteer at the Prescott Library "Paws for Reading" program, which allows school-age children to sit and read to the therapy dogs. Alliance Therapy Dog Teams volunteer in a wide range of settings - schools, hospitals, nursing homes, and even private homes. Luna’s therapy dog certification through Alliance will not transfer to Luna’s new owner unless they apply for the Pet Therapy Team, which is very inexpensive and rewarding. For more information about the program, go to www.therapydogs.com/join-therapy-dogs/. If you are looking for a great well balanced canine companion with the ability to bring smiles and joy with people, young and old alike, Luna is your girl! 🐾🩷🐾 Our adoption fee helps cover expenses (vaccinations, microchips, spay/neuter, food, housing) for the homeless pets we rescue. UAF does not adopt or ship outside the state of Arizona. To ensure the best fit, UAF conducts a home visit to meet other pets and verify a safe, secure yard. If you have any questions or to adopt a dog an application must submitted. Filling out this form does not obligate you to adopt, but gives us the information needed to make sure the pet is suited to your home. HOW TO APPLY: From Petfinder.com The fastest way to get to the adoptable dog page is to copy and then paste this link into your browser: https://unitedanimalfriends.org/adoptable-dogs/ When you are on the UAF website Select "Adoptable Dogs" and pick the dog you are interested in. To apply to adopt, go into the dog's profile, and click the gray "Apply for Adoption" button to get started. You could be a life saver! Help us save more lives by fostering a dog or cat. If you live in the Prescott Az area please go to our website unitedanimalfriends.org and learn more about fostering!
