Remember Ranch? This handsome, big-eared goofball first came to Heartland back in April, when he was just three weeks old, along with his mom, Ensalada, and seven siblings. He was a tiny little thing back then, but he's done quite a bit of growing up since... He's practically a pony now, and not done yet!
Ranch was adopted as a puppy and has spent the past several months learning all about life in a home. Now he's back with us, and while we're sorry his first adoption didn't work out, we've learned quite a bit about the wonderful, spirited young dog he's become!
First things first: Ranch is a FUN dog. He's smart, athletic, affectionate, and enthusiastic about pretty much everything life has to offer. He loves people, has lived with children as young as five, and enjoys the company of other dogs, too! Whether it's a game of tug-of-war, a romp around the yard, or an opportunity to show off that big brain of his, Ranch is all in!
And speaking of games, Ranch has some opinions about how they should be played. Fetch? Sure, he'll chase the ball! Bringing it back? Well, wouldn't it be more fun if YOU chased HIM? Ranch is a big fan of keep-away, and we suspect he finds himself absolutely hilarious.
He's also a champion chewer, a big fan of food puzzles and stuffed Kongs, and the kind of dog who appreciates having something to keep his busy mind occupied. He has plenty of energy and enthusiasm, but he's also learned some very nice household manners! Ranch is fully crate trained, goes into his crate on command, sleeps through the night, and has made excellent progress with housebreaking. He's also a terrific car passenger!
Ranch is still very much an adolescent, and with that comes plenty of enthusiasm! Sometimes his excitement gets a little ahead of his manners, particularly on leash when he spots another dog and can't get over to say hello. But here's something we were delighted to discover: Ranch recently joined playgroup here at Heartland with several other dogs and did wonderfully! He's a social, playful boy who enjoys canine company, even if he's still learning that not every dog he sees on a walk requires an immediate introduction.
One important thing we've learned about Ranch is that he has a strong prey drive, so his next home will need to be one without cats or other small animals. We want to make sure his next placement is one where everyone can thrive.
What kind of home would Ranch love? One with people who appreciate an active, clever, playful dog and are excited about helping him continue to learn and mature. He's looking for people who will play with him, engage that busy brain, laugh at his antics, and enjoy all the fun that comes with raising a spirited young dog.
Ranch is currently in a foster home-- the same foster home he was in for a few weeks as a pup! He is doing great with the family and their dog.
Ranch may not be the tiny puppy you remember, but that happy, goofy personality is still very much there. He's just grown into those enormous ears (well, almost!).
Come meet Ranch and see if this handsome, fun-loving boy might be your perfect match!
Ranch's adoption fee is $300. This animal is neutered, up to date on core vaccines, and Heartworm negative.
Ranch's adopter(s) will receive a training scholarship worth up to $250! This is not paid upfront; rather, after an adopter enrolls their Heartland dog in positive reinforcement training (group or private sessions) and sends us the invoice, we will mail you a check.
