Hello world. Our names are Demi (F) and Russell (M). We are barely over a year, nearly did not survive as younger pups, and then given the gift of love and kindness. So, here we are today. Our mom did not survive the cruel owner. But dad was his pride and joy, a large Belgian Malinois. Our owner did not care if we lived or died. At one point our littermates were coming down with parvo. This person did not care that our littermates were suffering. This very kind lady was persistent (all 5 feet tall). She came day after day until one day she told them she wasn't going to stand by and let us die too. Demi had all but given up. She was too weak to walk. The owner surrendering them loaded us up in her minivan. After a lot of TLC (tender loving care), medicine, and time, we came back to life. Today (08/13/2024), we do not slow down for pictures. We slow down enough for treats, dinner, and getting into our playard. We love all sizes of other dogs, we have been exposed to cats but have too much energy and love of life to say we are cat social. We love people, sort of leash trained, crate trained and for the most part house trained. We do get in a whole lot of playing and forget to go to the door. Our ideal home is active. Older children would be good. Have time to make us a part of your family. We want to please you. We are not a bonded pair. We would do great with or without another dog as company. I, (Cherry), am a Malinois mix. I am about 40lbs. We really do not know what I or my babies are mixed with, because I am a stray too. I am sweet, gentle, happy girl. I do not mind my foster family (children included) handling my babies. I like to play with the human children, get my loving from my foster parents. I am house trained, leash trained, and not food aggressive. My babies are eating kibble now besides still nursing some. My babies: General (m), Major (m), Sarge (m), Patriot Patty (f), and Glory (f) will be ready to go to their furever homes when they are 10 weeks old. They can only go to their new homes when they have had their reqired vaccines. All 5 of the babies are sweet, happy, smart, and funny. 93 days.That's how long Kodak has been here without any interest.Kodak is 10 months old. Over three of those months have been spent in the shelter. 33% of his life has been spent in the shelter without a home, a family, NOTHING to call his own.He's seen so many other dogs come and go in those three months. He's seen so many other dogs meet with MULTIPLE families...and can't even get ONE family to meet him.Again, Kodak is just a puppy. He's about 58lbs but he has, admittedly, gotten a little chunky so we're working on getting him to shed a few pounds. (We keep sneaking him extra treats...it's our love language.) He's a lab mix and he is such a GOOD, smart, silly boy that any family would be lucky to have.Kodak loves toys, loves walks, and loves people. He's a VERY high energy kind of guy and it can come across as a little chaotic at times - once he's in a home with regular exercise and better outlets for that energy than what we can provide in the shelter, that may very well change. He has been responding BEAUTIFULLY to professional training and he is so, so intelligent that he picks up on things remarkably quickly. Kodak loves other dogs but does have the enthusiasm of a freight train so can come on a little strong. All he wants to do is play and make friends. We're looking for a home without cats specifically just because he does NOT get the hint when a cat growls or swats at him and he would instigate like a typical teenage boy. Kids 10+ would be best HOWEVER we are willing to make an exception for the right family that has dog experience.Kodak is fully vaccinated and will be microchipped and neutered before adoption. We will also be forwarding the information for the trainer he has been working with to Kodak's adopters if they want to continue which we highly recommend because he's been a star student!To apply, visit foreverpaws.com and click adopt to download our application.
