Story
Name: Annie OakleyBreed: German Shepherd mixAge: 4 yrsGender: feWgt/Hgt: 55 lbs / 22 inches Highlights: playful, tripaw, joyful, very affectionate, independent, low exercise needs - no walking needed Energy level: low Relations: great with dogs once comfortable with them, good with kids, not good with cats  Hi everyone, my name is Annie Oakley. I am a beautiful and very happy girl, but that hasn't always been true for me. I used to live in the Middle East where at the very tender age of eight months I became pregnant. I was much too young to become a mother and all my puppies died. In addition my rear leg had been badly damaged, probably from being hit by a car. In the country I come from, dogs are considered vermin and people often deliberately hit us with their cars in an attempt to kill us. The wounds became badly infected and I was in terrible pain by the time I was finally rescued. The vet I was taken to wasn't able to save my leg and it had to be amputated. Despite this I am very mobile and can easily climb stairs. I can't go on long hikes but normal length walks are perfect for me.  I am a very loving and affectionate girl who has a real love of life. I enjoy the company of other dogs, once I trust them and currently live happily with several dogs of all sizes. However, it takes me a few visits for me to feel safe with other dogs. So it is difficult for a potential adopter to take the time I need to get me familiar with their dog. So a home without another dog is best for me. I am happy being the only dog in the home as my true love is people. I have the cutest habit of splaying my front legs out wide when I want you to play with me. And if you pet me and stop and I want some more, I will wrap my front legs around yours to trap you and keep you with me. Adorable, right?  I am a really easy dog to care for, and to love. I very much enjoy being outside so a fenced yard is important to me. In fact, I don't need or want to go on walks. Because of my missing rear leg, I find walking too strenuous and much prefer hanging out with my person inside the home or outside in the yard. A covered deck for me to hang out on, watching birds and squirrels, is essential for me. While I am a joyful soul, I am not at all hyper or high energy. At home, I am very calm and relaxed. My favourite thing to do is lie on my bed, chewing on a marrow bone or a chew stick. There is no way you could be unhappy with me around.  I am spayed, vaccinated and microchipped. My adoption fee is $600 plus applicable taxes* Disclaimer: It is important for all applicants to visit our website, http://www.lovedatlastdogrescue.ca/adopting/ and read about Loved at Last Dog Rescue.Information included in the profile is provided to us from the international rescuer or local fosters. LALDR does not have access to overseas dogs and cannot always verify the accuracy of their descriptions. Every dog is an individual and can act differently in different situations based on the person adopting them and the environment in which they live. Please Note: LALDR highly encourages adopters to research some local dog trainers before their dog arrives. Although a 1-on-1 trainer is often not needed, it is good to have someone in mind in case any problematic behaviours arise. Most bad behaviours can be modified if caught early enough, so make sure to nip undesirable behaviours in the bud before they become serious problems.Basic training should be taken seriously, but should not begin until your dog is well settled in - at least a couple of weeks. After you feel your new dog is relaxed and comfortable in their new home, check out training courses in your local area. Even basic beginner courses like those taught at a local pet store can have a huge benefit in helping your dog learn to socialize and get used to being in public situations, all with the added benefit of strengthening their bond with you. While most dogs find escorting passengers flying directly to Vancouver, some will find flights through Toronto or  Montreal. In that case, additional fees will apply to fly your dog to Vancouver by cargo. Unaccompanied cargo costs within Canada range from $350 - $550 depending on the size of the dog. LALDR will be as transparent as possible with you regarding these costs. The age and breed of a dog is usually an educated guess, so we are not able to guarantee the accuracy of age or breed of our dogs. Normally, we will not approve adoptions to homes with children under 12 years of age. However if a dog has been determined to be good with children we will approve applicants with children 8 years or older. More information can be found on our website. Vaccinations: Dogs from the Middle East are vaccinated for rabies, parvo, distemper, leptospirosis, adenovirus type 1 and para-influenza. Bordatella is not given, as that has not been a problem in the Middle East. ##951485##

Story
Meet adoptable Olaf  Olaf is a handsome 2 year old Belgian Shepherd mix. He weighs approx 50 lbs and is 26” tall to his shoulders. Besides his good looks, the very best thing about Olaf is his charming personality!  He is a friendly, good-natured, loving dog. He has a warm, affectionate disposition - he LOVES to be petted and never turns down an opportunity for cuddles. At the same time, Olaf is a fun-loving, active companion who enjoys long walks, park play, and exploring the outdoors.  True to the Shepherd breed, Olaf is highly intelligent, obedient, and responsive to training. He picks up new skills quite quickly and is always eager to please his humans. This guy is a great candidate for obedience training courses and we’re sure he’ll be an A+ student! At his current foster home in Guadalajara, Olaf is fully house trained and crate trained. He walks well on the leash and has no problem with car rides. Olaf is great with other dogs, just as he is with people. He lives with many doggies at his foster home, all ages and sizes. He is accustomed to the family lifestyle, being with adults, kids, and fur-siblings, as well as meeting visitors who come over. His fosters describe him as a social, personable dog who gets along easily with others. Olaf was rescued from a very destitute area of Mexico where stray dogs are notoriously mistreated and abused. Sadly, Olaf was dumped in this neighbourhood and did his best to fend for himself. At some point during his time on the streets, Olaf suffered a traumatic blow to his lower jaw. As per the veterinary exam, it is most likely that he was forcefully kicked or had a heavy object thrown at his face. This caused a fracture in his lower right jaw which left him with a slight deviation, but it does not affect his ability to eat or function normally. It just gives him an extra adorable, goofy grin!  VETTING: Fully vaccinated. Neutered. Dewormed. SNAP 4Dx negative (Heartworm, Lyme disease, Ehrlichia, and Anaplasma). Distemper negative. Flea/tick/heartworm prevention. **PLEASE NOTE: Olaf is currently in Mexico with his fosters. There will be a $235 fee for transportation to BC. This will be discussed upon approval.** ##1840600##
