Story
Hey hoomans!! My name is Alessa and here's my story: PHYSICAL INFO: Breed: Belgian Shepherd/Portuguese Podengo mix (just a guess really!) Age: 2 years 2 months approx. Gender: Female Weight: 33lbs (15 kg) Current Location: Guadalajara Mexico RESCUE STORY - I was born and raised in a garbage dump in Guadalajara Mexico (the only home I had ever known) when one day the dump burned down...When this happened I decided to take refuge under a trailer and I was so scared I wouldn't move! Luckily some kind hoomans who knew that there were dogs at the dump showed up to rescue us and I decided I wanted this very much. Although it took a lot of courage, I managed to crawl out from my hiding place and look for a better life. I proceeded to follow them and gave them my best 'puppy eyes' until I convinced them to take me home hehehe.  TEMPERAMENT - I currently live at a dog hotel where I'm told I stand out among the crowd as being a very sweet pup. I am cautious and observant at first but once I can see you're a safe hooman (this doesn't take long), I am more than willing to open my heart up to all the love and kisses you can give me! I am really a big cuddle bug and I love the company and affection of hoomans. Sometimes I can get possessive of my favourite toys. This is because I never had toys before you see? My foster is working on teaching me that I will always have toys from now on and I would appreciate an adopter that will continue to work on this with me.  ENERGY LEVEL - Moderate GETS ALONG WITH: Kids – Unknown Dogs – Yep!! I get along just fine with other dogs and am around them all day at the doggy hotel.  Cats – Unknown PREY DRIVE - Unknown. I’m not too sure how I’ll react around cats/squirrels/rabbits etc. My adopter needs to be prepared and willing to train me through these behaviours, should they arise. TRAINING: Leash skills – My rescuers say I am great with my leash skills, however I may need some additional patience and training. House trained – My rescuer says I am doing well with this but I may need some additional training and patience.  Crate trained – My rescuer says this is in progress but I may need some additional training and patience.  Car rides – I do pretty well in the car as you can see here but still may need some additional training and patience. Please Note: WCP Dog Rescue partners with Unleashed Dog Training (Hannah Swain) to offer adopters one training session at a rate of $25. Any subsequent sessions will be offered at a rate of $50. WCP also highly encourages adopters to do some research and training on their own before their dog arrives. HEALTH NOTES: I am spayed and vaccinated. NOTE: dogs from Guadalajara are not microchipped. NOTE: It is not uncommon for rescue dogs to require dental work/cleaning after they are adopted. West Coast Paws does not cover the costs of dental work and/or vet visits. These costs are the financial responsibility of the adopter. ADOPTION FEE: My adoption fee is $750.00 CAD + applicable taxes, which includes my airfare, if a flight volunteer is found directly to Vancouver. ------------------------------------- DISCLAIMER: Please visit wcpdogrescue.com to read about West Coast Paws Dog Rescue and it's adoption process.
