Story
Meet Cub!This 50lb, 2-year-old, German Shepherd mix came to the shelter as a stray, and he`s still adjusting to all the sights and sounds of kennel life. The busy environment and loud noises can make him a little nervous, and he seems unsure around the other dogs here. Because of that, Cub appreciates people who are willing to take things slow and let him build confidence at his own pace.Once he`s out in the play yard, a different side of Cub shines through! He`s incredibly friendly and enjoys spending time with his people. Toss a toy, and he`ll happily chase after it—even if he`s not too interested in bringing it back or playing with it for long. His favorite part is really just being with you.One of Cub`s sweetest traits is how talkative he is. Chat with him, and he`ll `talk` right back, making conversations with him both entertaining and endearing.Cub is looking for a patient family who will help him feel safe and loved while he settles into a home. With a little time and understanding, this sweet, chatty boy is sure to become a wonderful companion. We do all adoptions with approved applicants by appointment only. Story
Meet Kenai!Kenai is a 45lb, 2-year-old, Shepherd mix who found himself at the shelter through no fault of his own. He`s ready for a fresh start with a family who will love him as much as he`ll love them! This handsome guy has an enthusiastic personality and gets excited to meet new people, so don`t be surprised if he greets you with a few happy jumps. Kenai is highly motivated by toys and treats, making playtime and training lots of fun.On walks, Kenai can be strong and tends to pull on the leash, so he`ll benefit from some continued leash training and a family that`s ready to help him polish his manners. The good news is that he`s eager to engage, especially when treats are involved!Kenai also doesn`t seem to mind other dogs, so he may enjoy having a canine companion with a proper introduction. We do all adoptions with approved applicants by appointment only. FOSTER TO ADOPT!!!Meet Stump, Stamp, Stache and Straw!??Stump- 6 weeks old, female, Shepherd mix.Stamp- 6 weeks old, male, Shepherd mix.Stache- 6 weeks old, male, Shepherd mix.Straw- 6 weeks old, male, Shepherd mix. These four adorable 6-week-old, Shepherd mix puppies are looking for foster-to-adopt homes while they continue to grow and develop! At this young age, they are still learning important puppy skills, including socialization, confidence-building, and all the canine manners that help them become well-adjusted adult dogs.Because puppies learn so much from one another, we would love to see them fostered in pairs whenever possible. If adopting a pair isn`t the right fit, a home with another friendly, well-socialized dog would be ideal to help teach them appropriate dog behaviors and provide valuable companionship.Like all young puppies, they are full of curiosity, playfulness, and plenty of puppy energy. They will thrive in patient, understanding homes that are prepared to guide them through their early learning stages with positive reinforcement, structure, and lots of love.We do all adoptions with approved applicants by appointment only. If you are interested in adopting, please contact us via FB Messenger or email us at jcasreception@johnsoncounty.in.gov for an application. You can also find one on our website at http://johnsoncountyanimalshelter.com/adopt/. Once an application is submitted and approved, we can set an appointment to meet the pet!
