Story
Meet Lil Caesar, a resilient German Shepherd puppy who loves balls, sunbathing, and his person.Lil Caesar came into WCAC with a broken leg. X Rays revealed he had a spiral fracture on his left tibia and was put in a cast for several weeks. Despite being microchipped, WCAC had no luck getting in contact with his family. And to top off his bad luck, the stress of being at the shelter caused his fur to start falling out. Lil Caesar needed a breakfast and that's when he went into foster. His foster home consists of dogs of all sizes - from spicy 10lb chihuahua to 70lb chunky pittie. He gets along great with his female siblings but doesn't really seem to enjoy the company of other male dogs so would highly recommend a tolerant, playful female sibling. He also lives with a 4yo who he is very gentle with and invites her to chase him around the house when he has his ball. If the 4yo is sitting on the couch, he will plop down next to her and calmly chew on his ball. Of course, given his young age and mouthiness, interactions with kids are always supervised but he seems to do really well with children. Regarding his ball, definitely a must in his toy repertoire. He will trot around with a ball in his mouth and entertain himself for hours. He is also quite the musician and if he gets a hold of his metal bowl, he'll toss it around for quite the concert. Another love is being outside - if the weather is nice. If the sun is out, he is out. He enjoys chasing his foster siblings around - although he is quite slow. Perhaps he'll get faster as he regains his strength but be prepared to hear him whine when he can't catch up. If the weather is not so nice, he will expect his human to walk out in the rain with him when it's time to potty because misery truly does love company. Lil Caesar would thrive in a home that understands German Shepherd quirks. He can be mouthy so will definitely need training and a ball to keep his mouth entertained. He loves to greet his human with controlled nibbles and jumpiness but luckily, he's pretty tiny at 35lbs so he won't knock you over the way you'd expect a GS to do. He's easy to walk but can be afraid of loud cars so be prepared to stop frequently outside which you'd have to do anyways because he attracts a lot of attention with his handsome face and patchy fur. Due to his anxiety, his foster mom would highly recommend someone who is a homebody and can be with him most of the time and ideally lives in a home with a fenced yard so he doesn't bother neighbors when he barks. He is crate and potty trained and man, is he learning to love. He has learned what affection is and will stay very still to accept kisses and snuggles from his foster mom. He is such a good boy and has learned so much since being brought into WCAC. He deserves a home that understands he will need training and lots of love. Story
Derwood is a sweet and gentle 6-year-old who came in as a stray and was never reclaimed. This older gentleman is ready to be someone's loyal sidekick. He leans in for scratches, takes treats with the softest mouth, and loves nothing more than exploring new scents. Derwood gets excited when it's time to leave his kennel-he's eager for adventure-but once outside, he's wonderfully easy to walk. The only challenge comes when it's time to head back in; he'll politely (and hilariously) try to guide you in a different direction. In playgroup, Derwood showed just how very house-trained he is-potty time was his top priority for the first few minutes in the yard. Once that important business was handled, his energy picked up and he became a bit too enthusiastic with his playmate, showing some intense, pouncy behavior. Because he was getting a little amped up, the session was ended early.Although he is heartworm positive, it is treatable and not contagious. Friends of Wake County Animal Center has provided a $1,000 sponsorship to help cover the cost of treatment. He is up to date on vaccinations, flea/tick and heartworm prevention, is microchipped, and will be neutered prior to going home. If you have dogs or cats, we recommend slow introductions over time. If you have children in your home, we recommend supervision between animals and children at all times. If you're interested in learning more about him, please reach out to our volunteer matchmakers at wcac.matchmaker@gmail.com with the subject line "Derwood, 265567". Story
Meet Chardonnay — a total sweetheart with a gentle guardian heart. This loving girl has earned the nickname “little shadow” because she adores her people and likes to stay close, quietly keeping an eye on everything. True to her German Shepherd roots, Chardonnay is alert and aware but calm and affectionate, happiest when she’s near her humans (preferably within belly-rub range). She loves being outdoors, especially long sniffy walks, and enjoys light play like tug-of-war. While not a super energetic pup, she thrives with regular walks and a predictable routine. Chardonnay walks beautifully on leash, isn’t reactive to other dogs, and is more curious than bothered by the world around her.Food isn’t her love language—she’s a bit of a polite, picky eater—but structure and consistency help her shine. She’s doing great with house training, sleeps soundly in her crate at night, and is learning to signal when it’s time to go out.Protective but quick to relax once she knows all is well, Chardonnay is a loyal, loving companion who would flourish in a home that offers routine, affection, and time together. If you’re looking for a devoted sidekick with a soft soul, she may be your perfect match.
