Story
This pet was brought in as a stray and will NOT be available for adoption through our program. All stray animals brought in are posted on the gallery to hopefully be reunited with their families. Each pet is evaluated upon arrival, and throughout their stay, at the Animal Center and we do our best to place the animal in the setting most appropriate for them. Sometimes, they may be better served through one of our Transfer Partners due to the intervention needed, ongoing care required or a quieter setting for that individual. We want our animals to put their best paw forward. If you are a 501c3 rescue and are interested in partnering with WCAC to help this pet, and others, you can find more information on how to help at: https://www.wakegov.com/departments-government/animal-services/community-partners/transfer-program If this is your pet, please contact us immediately at AnimalCenter@wake.gov Primary Color: Black

Story
Derwood is a sweet and gentle 6-year-old who came in as a stray and was never reclaimed. This older gentleman is ready to be someone's loyal sidekick. He leans in for scratches, takes treats with the softest mouth, and loves nothing more than exploring new scents. Derwood gets excited when it's time to leave his kennel-he's eager for adventure-but once outside, he's wonderfully easy to walk. The only challenge comes when it's time to head back in; he'll politely (and hilariously) try to guide you in a different direction. In playgroup, Derwood showed just how very house-trained he is-potty time was his top priority for the first few minutes in the yard. Once that important business was handled, his energy picked up and he became a bit too enthusiastic with his playmate, showing some intense, pouncy behavior. Because he was getting a little amped up, the session was ended early.Although he is heartworm positive, it is treatable and not contagious. Friends of Wake County Animal Center has provided a $600 sponsorship to help cover the cost of treatment. He is up to date on vaccinations, flea/tick and heartworm prevention, is microchipped, and will be neutered prior to going home. If you have cats, we recommend slow introductions over time. If you have children in your home, we recommend supervision between animals and children at all times. If you're interested in learning more about him, please reach out to our volunteer matchmakers at wcac.matchmaker@gmail.com with the subject line "Derwood, 265567". Story
Ivy is the sweet and calm soul of the bunch, a gentle spirit with a heart as soft as her fluffy white fur. While her siblings are off zooming around and getting into mischief, Ivy is the peaceful presence that brings a sense of balance to the chaos. She loves being around her wild sisters, but she also knows when it’s time to slow down, cuddle, and offer a little extra comfort. Her calm, loving nature makes her the perfect cuddle bug, always ready to snuggle up and relax after a busy day of play.Despite her chill side, Ivy is no stranger to adventure. She’s curious and loves discovering new things—whether it’s exploring a new corner of the backyard, meeting new people, or checking out every interesting scent she can find. Ivy is also the first to greet new faces with her gentle, affectionate personality, and she’s always eager to make new friends. When she’s not playing with her siblings or exploring, Ivy loves to curl up with her humans for some quiet time. Ivy’s calm presence will make you feel at ease.Likes: Playing with her siblings, discovering new things, meeting new people with a wagging tail, and most of all, cuddling up for a nap after a day full of adventures.Ivy is available as part of our Foster to Adopt Program - what this means is that her adoptive family (once approved through the adoption process), will act as her foster family until she is of age to be spayed and her puppy vaccinations are completed. Foster to Adopt families MUST be located within 1 hour driving distance of our location. This is because puppies will have several clinic visits for vaccination updates and our veterinary partners are all in the Raleigh, NC area.
