Story
4 years, 12 lbs, neutered, healthy, delightful little Cockapoo. Loves everyone, joyful, funny! Blue has a throat defect and is unable to swallow properly. He had surgery at WSU which helped a lot but is tube fed twice per day. I blend one can of Purina ProPlan puppy food, a tablespoon of corn oil, 1/3 can of water, and a scoop of probiotics in a blender and pour half of it into his 200 mL syringe. He jumps up on a chair to be fed as soon as he sees I have the food in my hand. The red feeding tube (#18) on the syringe slips pretty easily down his throat and the food is pushed into his stomach pretty quickly. He loves his feedings and it is not difficult for anyone to do. I am happy to demonstrate and teach. After he is fed I pour the rest of the feeding from the blender into his syringe and keep it in the fridge for the next feeding. So I only blend food once per day. I warm up the second feeding by soaking the syringe in a large cup of hot tap water for 15 minutes before feeding. The syringe and feeding tube are replaced about once per month. they are not expensive. He can drink water from a bowl but cannot have any dry dog food or scraps by mouth. He does occasionally get something to eat and gags on it. Often it comes out his nose with lots of sneezing. He manages this without any scary choking danger to himself. The surgery really helped with this. I just take it away from him before he eats it again.
Blue is an avid fetcher! He has great manners. He loves to ride in a bike trailer! He loves to go on walks and adventures, is very outgoing and has never met a stranger. Blue needs someone who is up to the challenge of his care and will enjoy his bouncy little self. He will fetch and catch his ball all day if someone will toss it for him.
Blue is located in Washington, but will be transported to NYC at no cost to the right adopter. Blue is good with kids, cats, and other dogs.
