Story
MEET STUART! Stuart is a 7-year-old, 102-pound Bernedoodle—a beautiful mix of Bernese Mountain Dog and Standard Poodle. This big, lovable guy was surrendered when his owner moved to a condo and could no longer provide the space and care he needed. Now Stuart is searching for a new family with the experience, patience, and commitment to love him furever! Stuart is an affectionate, playful boy who loves attention and enjoys meeting new people. He enjoys playing with toys, fetching, going for car rides, and spending time with his family. He is also a loyal companion and attentive watchdog who will alert his people when something unusual is happening. Now, let's talk about Stuart's BIG personality—and his even BIGGER appetite! Stuart is a self-proclaimed food enthusiast who takes his love of snacks to a whole new level! This handsome fella is an accomplished counter surfer and dumpster diver, and he has absolutely no shame when it comes to helping himself to anything he considers edible. Kitchen counters, unattended meals, and unsecured trash cans are all fair game in Stuart's world! His future family must be diligent about keeping food out of reach, securing garbage, and maintaining consistent household boundaries. Stuart can become overly enthusiastic and possessive when food is involved, particularly when he believes something delicious belongs to him. He may become defensive if someone attempts to take food away, so his future family must understand the importance of safely managing food-related situations. Stuart will require firm, consistent boundaries, confident handling, and continued training using positive reinforcement to help him develop better impulse control and appropriate food manners. His size and determination make this especially important, and his food-related behaviors should not be underestimated. For these reasons, Stuart is looking for a home without young children that don't understand that they are merely just a treat dispenser for dogs. Older, mature, dog-savvy children who understand canine boundaries may be considered. Stuart is a strong boy who pulls on the leash, which he has been working on, so his future home should have a securely fenced physical yard where he can safely exercise or an owner physically capable of managing 100 pounds of enthusiasm. He is not a candidate for a tether or invisible fence. Although Stuart has never lived with another dog, he has had plenty of positive interactions with dogs in the past and continues to socialize without issue, as long as food is not involved. He is not a fan of cats and will require a feline-free home. Due to his large size, strength, and food-related determination, we are seeking an experienced, confident adopter familiar with XL breeds who can provide the structure and consistency Stuart needs. Stuart is house-trained and generally has a good understanding of household routines. He has demonstrated that he can be trusted when left alone without being crated, provided food, garbage, and other tempting treasures are properly secured. His counter surfing and dumpster diving are habits that he has been working hard to curb, and his future family should be prepared to continue to help curb this impulse with him rather than expect these behaviors to disappear overnight. As a Bernedoodle, Stuart will require regular brushing and professional grooming to keep his coat healthy and comfortable. Stuart has a lipoma beneath his chest, a common benign fatty lump that develops beneath the skin, particularly in older dogs. It does not currently require surgical intervention or interfere with his quality of life. He is otherwise in great health, displays no mobility issues, and certainly isn't showing signs of slowing down! Stuart is a wonderful dog, but he isn't the right fit for every household. He needs a family that can appreciate his affectionate, fun-loving personality while recognizing that his size, strength, determination require responsible management. He will thrive with an active, experienced family willing to provide clear boundaries, continued training, and plenty of appropriate outlets for his energy. Behind that big appetite and occasionally mischievous behavior is a loyal, affectionate companion with so much love to give. Stuart isn't looking for a family that will let him get away with everything—he's looking for one that will help him become the very best version of himself. If you've got XL breed experience, a good sense of humor, secure trash cans, and a whole lot of love, Stuart just might be your perfect match!  Stuart is:Current on Bordetella, Distemper, and RabiesDewormedHeartworm Tested: NegativeReceiving Heartworm and Flea PreventionMicrochippedNeuteredADOPTION FEE: SPONSORED IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN THIS PET, PLEASE COMPLETE THE APPROPRIATE APPLICATION FOUND ON OUR WEBSITE HTTP://FUREVERTAILS.COM. Unfortunately, at this time we are not currently adopting outside of the state of MI. Animals can be unpredictable by nature, and behavior may change in new environments or over time. By proceeding with adoption or foster placement, applicants acknowledge and accept this inherent risk and agree that no guarantees, either expressed or implied, are made regarding the temperament or behavior of any animal placed through our program.
