Story
Lucy is the most adorable and sweetest pup. We bought her right before Christmas. Her birthday is October 15, 2025. My husband’s work schedule has changed and we are not home enough to give her the attention she needs. Lucy would do great with a family that will give her the attention she needs. Lucy LOVES to play but doesn’t like being alone all day. She would thrive in an active home with other dogs or someone who is home most of the day. She loves to be with people. She has been crate training very well. She sleeps all night in her crate, 9-5. Her house training has been coming along well. Lucy is very smart and catches on quickly. I will provide her crate, toys, playpen and anything we have that is hers. It’s hard to let her go. We just want her to be in a loving and caring home. She is a SNUGGLE BUG especially at night. I will be taking her to get her last round of vaccines the week of February 9th. She will be fully vaccinated then.

Story
Meet Callie our newest resident, a lovely 6-year-old Bichon Frise weighing in at a perfect 14 lbs. While she had a rough start and arrived with extreme matting that required a full shave, she is now clean, comfortable, and ready for her second chance at life! Her Personality: Right now, Callie is a bit shy as she adjusts to her new surroundings. However, we’ve already seen her "spark"—the moment she sees other dogs, her tail starts wagging! We have no doubt that with a little patience and love, she will blossom into a confident companion. She allows you to pick her up but since she hasn't been held before she isn't sure where to put her limbs so she will have them going in all directions. She rides well in the car. She just sits on the passenger seat. You can see her nose sniffing as she takes in the "free smells" She is a great couch companion. She has watched many football games and movies with our family. If you want a companion for the super bowl here is your girl :) Health & Wellness: We have taken care of everything so she can head into her forever home healthy! Her $380 adoption fee covers: Full Spay & Microchip Rabies & Core Vaccines Heartworm Testing Dental: She just had a professional cleaning and 6 teeth removed. She is a resilient girl who is finally getting the care she deserves. She is ready to meet her forever family! Adoption Process: - STEP 1: Please fill out our adoption application: https://www.dayofthedogs.org/adoption-application - STEP 2: One of our team members will get back to you via phone. - Our dogs can be seen by appointment only. We do not have a facility at this time. Dogs are in foster homes or boarding. FYI we are in Kansas City, MO. Petfinder still hasn't update our location from Indiana. - Adoption fee helps to cover transport costs, spay/neuter, initial vaccines, rabies, fecal, initial worming, and microchip. -We do not place holds on our dogs. Please do not contact us until you are prepared to adopt. NOTE: We are very good about updating the pet's profiles once adopted. So no need to write us to ask "Is he/she still available?" If the post is up, the dog is still available. About Us: Day of the Dogs is a 501c3 nonprofit. Since 2015 we have been dedicated to helping shelters increase live release. We coordinate 2 - 4 transports per month from TX, OK and AR to NW Indiana/Chicagoland and the Kansas City area. We do direct adoptions ourselves out of Kansas City and NW Indiana areas. We also partner with other rescues and shelters in IN, IL, KS and MO that are willing to help southern pets in need. We rely on donations to help fund our ongoing transports. Please donate if you can. Every dollar adds up and we are grateful for any help we can get: https://www.paypal.com/paypalme/DayoftheDogs

Story
Sometimes rescue asks us to listen — not to policies, not to preferences — not to what we “normally” do…but to the dogs themselves. We believe most dogs can thrive independently with the right support. Often, they don’t need each other, they just need “someone”. ✋ But Polly and Popcorn are the exception. Popcorn went in for surgery today. And for 7½ hours, Polly was completely inconsolable. 👉 She paced endlessly. 👉 She shook uncontrollably. 👉 She whined, barked, and cried. 👉 She searched. 👉 She was visibly distressed — not anxious, not unsettled — heartbroken 💔 She could not rest. She could not be comforted. Even though she was surrounded by dog friends, it didn’t matter…she could not understand why part of her was gone. And then Popcorn came back. The moment he returned, Polly climbed into bed with him. She gently licked his face. She wrapped herself around him like she was making sure he was real - that he was safe - that he wasn’t leaving again. Within minutes, they were asleep together. ☮️ 💐 Peace restored. Her world right again. We have seen a lot in rescue. We do not make decisions like this lightly. But after today, it is clear: separating Polly and Popcorn would cause real emotional harm. For Polly especially, being without Popcorn is not just uncomfortable — it is devastating. So with full hearts and absolute certainty, we are asking for something special. ✨✨✨ Polly (9 yrs) and Popcorn (2 mos) must be adopted together. They are not just companions. They are comfort. They are safety. They are home for each other. If you believe in love that looks like this — quiet, fierce, unwavering — 💗💗💗 If you have room in your heart and your home for two souls who belong together, these 2 need you. Because sometimes, the greatest act of rescue is simply not tearing love apart. If you would like to give them BOTH a home, just fill out an application at www.pawsitivetailskc.org. Their combined adoption fee is $500 and includes their spay/neuter, microchip, age-appropriate vaccines, and flea/tick/heartworm preventatives. Meet and Greets can be scheduled with Approved Adopters. 🖤🤎❤️🧡💛💚💙💜 APPLY @ PawsitiveTailsKC.org 💜💙💚💛🧡❤️🤎🖤
