Story
Who remembers the cute little boy on the Andy Griffith show? What was his name? Oh right, OPIE. Well, OPIE is my name also. I may not be the redhead that Ronny Howard was back then, but I definitely have some ginger in my fur. Unfortunately, I did not have a Mayberry childhood like OPIE Taylor. But my foster mom has promised me that Happy Days are ahead. I wasn’t born in a small, sleepy town in North Carolina, but in a rural community in Southern Indiana. It is very clear that I didn’t have an Aunt Bee cooking for me. I was nothing but a bag of bones when I was found as a stray young ‘un around the age of 4 months. If Sheriff Taylor knew who I belonged to, he would have slapped my owners with an animal cruelty charge. It was touch and go for a while if I would pull through, but I had a great vet and wonderful people to care for me. Fast forward eighteen months. I am now a happy, healthy and inquisitive lad. The Humane Society in Indiana has been trying to help me find the perfect furever home for months. When the pickings were slim, Rover Rescue stepped in. My foster mom says that these families don’t know what they are missing. She thinks I am a mighty fine Black Mouth Cur / Retriever Mix. I am a great size, weighing in at a healthy 56 pounds. We think my two year old birthday is sometime in January. The wrinkles on my forehead make me look very concerned. However, I was told not to worry because I have the sweetest disposition. I am just a lovebug. I crave attention and will give affection back freely. I don’t believe in personal space. The closer I can be to my people the better. I will melt your heart with my adoring eyes. Some men have caused me to feel intimidated so I may need a little time to warm up. I do want to be a people and dog pleaser. Cats, not so much, as a kitty free home is probably best for me. I have done very well with the resident dogs in my foster home. I love to play, run around the fenced backyard and wrestle with them. I do not need to be the “top dog” but will butt in if loving is being given to another. Sharing a home with confident dogs has helped boost my self-esteem and teach me how to be a respectful house member. I caught on to house training very quickly with their help. I take treats very gently and will sit and shake when asked… most of the time. I ride calmly in the car and enjoy going on walks. An Easy Walk Harness has proven to help with my pulling. When I am home alone and at bedtime, I am crated. I crate very easily with a good snack. I may complain for a minute, but will then settle down until it is time to be released. If you are looking for sweet and loyal boy to take fishing and maybe get into some mischief with, please consider me, OPIE. My foster mom, Darla, can tell you more about me if you call her at 630/406-9405. My adoption fee is $225. Adoption fee includes: - microchip - spay/neuter - age appropriate vaccinations: Bordetella, DH(L)PP, rabies - heartworm preventive & flea/tick preventive - deworming

Story
This boy was a rescue from Georgia. He is very playful boy that is full of energy!! He is a go go go sort of boy that will need an active family to keep up with him. He is with a group of pups his size and age so he does very well. He is friendly, knows his name and we think was house trained at some point. He does okay on a leash and knows how to sit for treats. He is just a friendly, happy and playful pup looking for a new forever home. Milo is now in Tennessee and can be transported to you through Rescue Riders.

Story
Hi, I'm Everest and I am so glad you are taking a look at me. I am a sweet boy who takes a bit of time to warm up to new people. I'm down for an adventure or a cuddle on the couch. While I may be missing an eye, I am still full of love and energy! I would love a home where I can become confident and learn! One thing about me is that I am a foodie!!! Chicken, cheese, freeze-dried, and more! I do not discriminate. Other things I like: Giving kisses Playing Doggy friends Napping As a puppy, I am starting to learn my basic manners like sit, down, and touch. I'm no expert yet, but I keep going! I would love to keep learning with you! If it sounds like we would be a good match, I would love to meet you! Everest is an all-star dog, and his adoption appointment includes a discussion with the training team, as well as a few enrichment goodies to help get you both off to a good start. To learn more about Everest or to schedule an appointment to meet him, please email info@ahconnects.org (including your name and phone number), and the staff will be happy to assist you. Our dogs and puppies go home spayed/neutered, microchipped, heartworm tested (7 months and over), and up to date on core vaccines, heartworm, flea, and tick preventatives. Their adoption also includes a free-vet exam at one of our participating veterinarians. Ask fosters@ahconnects.org about fostering Everest, while he waits for his forever home!

Story
Maple - Female Black Mouth Cur Mix (BREED AND SUZE AT FULL GROWTH IS BEST GUESS ONLY) Date of Birth 8/1/2024 Current weight 22-25 pounds Maple did not start off life very well. Dumped at a very young age (6 weeks) but thankfully found and brought to the shelter in Alabama where he got healthy and hitched a ride to Illinois in hopes of finding his forever home. Here’s her bio from her foster family Maple 🐾 4 months old Maple is a sweet, funny and typically rambunctious puppy. Considered active. She’s loves running around outside. She loves to play with both her human and canine foster siblings. She loves cuddles and power naps and is always ready for feeding time. She does great in her crate overnight (cries sometimes but once she knows you are around with a gentle shush she quiets right down), and is almost completely potty trained. She is food motivated but not food aggressive. She is still a puppy and definitely plays like one, all paws and teeth, so for now that should be considered. She is a good girl who will make a great addiction to the right home. Fenced in yard recommended. If she sounds like the perfect fit for your family please visit the rescue website www.foreverhomedogrescueil.org for requirements, process and applications. WE DO NOT DO OUT OF STATE ADOPTIONS Thank you for considering the adoption of one of our rescue dogs. We are committed to finding our rescues the perfect home. Together we can make a difference in the life of a dog. The adoption process should be a fun and exciting time for families and dogs. Our goal is to place our babies in forever homes. The potential adopter needs to be dedicated to their care and training for life. Understand that sharing your life with a dog can be a commitment of 15+ years. This would include feeding, exercise, training, vetting, and providing a loving home. Ask yourself, "Am I ready for this type of commitment?" If you are ready, we are here to help. We do have some requirements to help us find the perfect placement of our babies. WE ARE A FOSTER BASED RESCUE ONLY. WE DO NOT HAVE A PHYSICAL BUILDING 1. Apply online at https://www.foreverhomedogrescueil.org We must have an application, conduct a phone interview, and meet your entire family (including other dogs) to approve an adoption. Only a final approval for adoption can take place after a successful meet and greet. This is done by appointments only. We will not proceed with the adoption if everyone has not met the dog. This will allow others the opportunity to adopt the dog. 2. Adopters MUST be 25 years old. Information on all adults/members living in the home is required We REQUIRE you to provide proof and vet reference that all current and past pets have been kept up to date on all routine medical. 3. Illinois law requires that all of our dogs and puppies be spayed/neutered within 30 days of adoption. In order to fully comply with this regulation and reduce the number of homeless dogs and puppies, 4. If you do not own your home, you must provide landlord contact information on the application and a copy of your lease that outlines the rules for dog ownership in your residence. Large breed dogs will not be adopted into apartment settings or where there are breed/ size restrictions. Puppies have special needs and require a home where someone is available to care for, socialize, and give basic training. If you are gone for more than a couple hours at a time, please consider adopting a teen or older dog. 5. Adoption fees are $400.00. We accept Zelle, Cash or Checks. (Prices are subject to change without notice). 6. All dogs and puppies adopted through Forever Home are fully vetted with age appropriate vaccines. Keep in mind once you take possession of your newly adopted dog, any and all future medical costs or care is YOUR responsibility. 7. First time puppy/dog adopters will be required to sign up for and pay in advance a basic training class. A deposit of an extra 50.00 will be required until a class has been completed, it will then be returned. 8.
