Story
Isabelle, known as Bella by her foster family, is a beautiful young dog, likely a Black Mouth Curr. Coming to her foster family at roughly 40 lbs she has made a fantastic post transport/puppy recovery to 53 lbs!
Bella came to Illinois from Texas in January 2025. She had a puppy in late 2024, likely prior to her first birthday. While we don’t know much of her puppyhood, she does have distrust of strangers, particularly men. She warmed to the father in the foster home after two months of patience, love, walks and pets.
Bella is house trained and crate trained. She prefers to spend her down time in her crate and is very comfortable in there when her foster family leaves the home and when she goes to bed at night. Over the 3 months in her foster family’s home she has had only 2 accidents while being allowed unsupervised time.
Bella lives with 2 foster parents and a 6 and 1 year old child, no other animals in the house. Bella enjoys long walks and cuddles/pets. She is often independent, but prefers the company of the foster mom to that of the dad. She plays with both of the children well and is very gentle with both of them, even when the toddler can test her patience with rougher pets or yelling.
Bella is apprehensive around dogs and needs reassurance while on walks. She is good with the nanny in the foster home, but cowers in her crate when other company comes over.
Bella would continue to grow in a home with a consistent routine, ideally with a woman to bond with and be her primary trainer. She doesn’t appear to have “puppy energy” and matches the speed of what you would consider an older dog. Her family should provide her patience and understanding. Bella continues to blossom further everyday, but it is a slow and patient process. She is ready to find a forever home where she can finally feel safe, loved, and truly at home.
Our standard adoption fee is $375 cash or check and $385 credit card ($10 processing fee). . It includes spay/neuter when age appropriate at our participating vets, age appropriate core vaccinations, fecal testing, deworming, flea and tick preventative,1st vet visit at one of our participating vets, and micro-chipping.
We must have an application, conduct a phone interview, and meet your entire family to approve an adoption. Applications will not be reviewed unless fully completed. An application does not commit you to adopting and does not guarantee adoption but does allow us to begin the review process.
