Story
This fun and adorable guy is just as loving and goofy as his namesake, and he is ready to live his life to the fullest! When you meet him, you can immediately tell how sweet he is. Tigger is about 1-2 years old. He walks very well on leash and gets along great with other dogs and kids (including the young kiddos!). Cat compatibility is unknown. He is very food motivated, and is starting to learn some skills and is eager to learn more. He is potty trained. He is the best of both worlds - his energy level is medium-high during the day when people are home and chill and relaxed at night. He enjoys just about any and all adventures, and has gone running with his foster momma with his adorable prance-like stride. He LOVES to cuddle and at the end of the day he snuggles up close. At his foster home, he likes to be where the people are. He is currently crated when no one is home. Come meet your newest family member! Tigger is so ready to love you!

Meet Honey — The Soul Dog Who’s Been Waiting for Her PersonHoney is a stunning Black Mouth Cur with a heart as big as her name. She’s intelligent, athletic, deeply intuitive, and in that in-between stage of life where she just needs someone willing to guide her into the incredible dog she’s meant to be.Her foster family spent about two months earning her trust — and once she realized she was safe, she blossomed. Honey became calm, affectionate, respectful, and eager to be part of everything they do. She bonds deeply, but she doesn’t give her heart away lightly. She’s smart enough to know when someone is truly committed.PersonalityHoney is:Loyal, sensitive, and highly attuned to peopleEnergetic and playful, but settles beautifully once fulfilledA thinker — she learns fast, but she’ll test boundaries if direction isn’t clearA total lovebug once she trusts youTrainingHoney is:Crate trainedHouse trainedLeash trainedWorking on polite greetings (she gets excited and jumps)She’s incredibly smart and responds best to consistency and confident leadership.Ideal HomeNo children under 15 (she matches energy and can be overwhelmed)No catsDog selective — she does best with dogs whose energy complements hersSomeone active who can give her daily exercise or mental enrichmentSomeone patient, steady, and willing to earn her trustWhat She Needs to ThriveHoney shines when she’s fulfilled. A 30-minute walk, a structured activity, or mental challenges keep her balanced and happy. When bored, she may make less-than-ideal choices (jumping, barking, chewing), but when her needs are met, she’s the best family dog you could ask for.Honey doesn’t need perfect — she needs someone willing. 2 years old (estimated)  Spayed Female  52 lbs.  Has done well with other dogs and meeting kids at the shelter  No known experience with cats Meet Millie , a sweet and friendly girl with a gentle, calm demeanor that makes everyone around her feel at ease. She loves cuddles, enjoys going for relaxing walks, and is happiest when she’s outside sniffing around and taking in all the interesting smells and sights. Millie has a quiet, affectionate nature and would make a wonderful companion for anyone looking for a loving pup to share cozy moments and peaceful adventures with. The online adoption listing websites require that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable so for most of the dogs we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We encourage you to select your new companion by considering each dog's individual personality and pet qualities instead of relying on a breed label that is only a guess.May 19, 2026, 3:59 pm

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. **If you are interested in being considered for this dog, please be sure to complete an application directly on our website - not through a 3rd party service.**   Meet Peaches!  Peaches is an approximately 2 years old, 55lb Black mouth cur mix. (We do not DNA test).  This poor girl found herself in a shelter down south when her owner went to jail.  Lucky for her some kind people saw her and brought her into rescue and she found her way up north to HWM.  Peaches is crate trained and house broken.  Her foster mom says she walks great on her harness and might even make a great jogging buddy for someone.  While Peaches doesn’t necessarily need a fenced in yard, she is high energy, so she will need lots of exercise, and walks.  Her potential adopters must be very committed to this.    Peaches is described by her foster momma as eager to please, food motivated and very affectionate.  This sweet girl has done well with other dogs in the foster home, as well as adults, but has not yet been exposed to cats or small humans.    Peaches is heartworm positive, but don't let that deter you.   She will be receiving treatment that is covered by the rescue.  Potential adopters will speak to a member of our medical team prior to any meet and greet, so they can fully understand the treatment and what it entails.     Peaches’ Adoption fee is  $350.00.  This includes age appropriate vaccines, completed wellness exam, and microchip.  *HWMAR presents the information in these bios based on our foster observations and any information presented to us regarding prior living conditions, breed specifications. Story
Hi, my name is Waffle! If you're looking for a lovable, goofy pup with soft fur and a heart full of love, I might just be your perfect match! I’m about 2 to 3 years old, weigh around 55 pounds, and am likely a Black Mouth Cur possibly mixed with Shar Pei—and about 55 other breeds! I'm your classic Heinz 57. I’m neutered, housebroken, and sleep soundly in my crate at night. I also crate well when left alone during the day. While I’m not currently living with children, based on my gentle demeanor, my foster family believes I’d do great in a home with respectful kids. I get along wonderfully with dogs of all ages and sizes and would thrive with a confident canine buddy by my side. I’m not shy at all—I'm happy to greet new people and dogs with a wag and a smile. I’ve just started discovering the joy of toys and playtime, and I’m having a blast learning how to be a carefree dog. I’m also not bothered by loud noises or sudden sounds—I'm a pretty steady guy. However, I do have a high prey drive, so watch out squirrels, chipmunks, birds, and especially cats—here I come! Because of that, I’d do best in a home without small animals or feline friends. I’m learning to walk nicely on a leash and improving every day. With a little guidance, love, and a consistent routine, I’ll make the perfect, loyal addition to your family. Could I be the Waffle to your morning? I can't wait to meet you! Our standard adoption fee is $375 if paid by cash or check, or $385 if paid by credit card (which includes a $10 processing fee). This fee covers spay/neuter surgery when age appropriate at one of our participating veterinarians, age-appropriate core vaccinations, fecal testing, deworming, flea and tick preventative, and microchipping. In order to be considered for adoption, we require a fully completed application, a phone interview, and a meet-and-greet with your entire family. Please note that submitting an application does not commit you to adopting and does not guarantee approval—it simply allows us to begin the review process. If you are interested in adopting or would like additional information, please email us at adopt@safehavendogsIL.org to request an application. Keep in mind that the breed and size listed in each dog's biography are our best educated guesses and are not guaranteed. Safe Haven Dog Rescue reserves the right to refuse the adoption of any dog or puppy to any applicant for any reason.

Story
Hi, I’m Happy — and I really live up to my name. I’m an almost 3-year-young mixed breed, possibly a Black Mouth Cur / German Shepherd mix, weighing about 60 lbs. I’m tall, lean, athletic… and truly the full package. Everyone who meets me says the same thing — I’m an amazing dog, and honestly, it’s a mystery why I haven’t been scooped up yet. My story started in rural Tennessee, where I was found as an underweight stray puppy. I spent 18 long months at a shelter with no one coming for me. The staff knew I deserved more, so I made my way to Chicago, where Safe Haven is helping me finally find the forever family I’ve been waiting for. I’m a young guy with great energy and an even better personality. I love long walks, runs, and playtime — I’d make an incredible running partner. At my foster home, I live for zooming around the fenced yard, so a 5-foot fence would be ideal for me. I’m playful and love my toys — squeaky balls, nylabones, and leather toys are some of my favorites. But I’m not just about action — I’ve got a calm, easygoing side too. I’m quiet and well-mannered in the house, happy to relax in my dog bed while you work or snooze nearby while you watch TV. I like being close to my people, and I’m especially in tune with your emotions — if you’re having a tough day, I’ll be right there to comfort you. Those soulful light brown eyes? They’re always looking out for you. I’m smart and eager to learn. I already know sit, stay, come, leave it, and down/off, and since I’m food motivated, training with me is fun and rewarding. I currently live with two other dogs and do just fine, though I’d really love a playmate closer to my size and energy level — or I’d be just as happy being your one and only. I do have a strong prey drive (squirrels and bunnies are very exciting!), so a cat-free home would be best. Because I’m strong and enthusiastic, I can sometimes forget my size when I’m excited. I’m fully housebroken and prefer a fenced yard for doing my business. I walk nicely on leash, and a harness helps keep me at my best. After spending so much time in a shelter, I don’t love crates or being confined, and I don’t love being alone for long stretches. I’d thrive in a home where someone is around most of the time — especially if you work from home. What I don’t understand is why I’m still waiting. I’m the kind of dog people say they’re looking for — loyal, smart, affectionate, active but able to relax, and deeply connected to my humans. I’m not just a good dog… I’m a really special one. If you have a fenced yard, enjoy getting outside, and want a devoted companion who will bring joy, energy, and unconditional love into your life — I’m ready. I’ve waited a long time. I just need someone to finally choose me. Adoption Information Happy’s standard adoption fee is $465. We offer a $15 discount for cash or check payments, making the fee $450. The adoption fee covers: Spay/neuter surgery (when age appropriate) at one of our participating veterinarians Age-appropriate core vaccinations Fecal testing and deworming Flea and tick preventative Microchipping To be considered for adoption, we require: A fully completed application A phone interview A meet-and-greet with your entire household Submitting an application does not commit you to adopting and does not guarantee approval — it simply begins the review process.
