I'm in a FOSTER HOME! If you would like to set up a time to meet with me, please email my foster parent at dcmusichound@gmail.com.Coffee needs no sugar, he is sweet enough without it. This foundling cur just wants to stick by your side and will be perfectly content as long as you are around. Although a bit shy at first, he melts when shown a little love and can cuddle with the best of them. He is excited to meet new dog friends, or cats, if they'll have him. Due to his youthful energy and gangly legs, he is still a bit young to be around kids.  To learn more about Coffee, contact dcmusichound@gmail.com.

Story
** I am currently being housed at our Oglethorpe St location. Come meet me at 71 Oglethorpe St NW, every day between 12pm-7pm. Please arrive no later than 6:30 p.m. to allow ample time to interact with adoptable dogs. Or visit humanerescuealliance.org/how-to-adopt to learn more. Rhys is a Welsh name and means "enthusiastic" or "ardent", and I hope you feel enthusiastic when you see me because I am the most handsome girl around here with the sweetest face. If you are enthusiastic about me, I promise to be an ardent fan of yours. My handsome tan coat and my subtle dark eyebrow markings make me quite a looker. At about 4 months and 17 lbs. I will probably be a big girl (and of course, I already have a big heart) -- just mentioning this here so you can plan ahead a bit and get me a big bed! As a puppy, I have a bit of learning to do, but I have a lot of potential and enthusiasm for it (hence my name), so I trust that this will be a fun process. So, if you have a zest for life and need a dog to match it, your search could end right here.

Story
Oso is a 5-year-old male shepherd/black mouth cur mix, weighing around 90 pounds. We rescued him and his son, Lobo, from a high kill shelter in Texas. This well-behaved companion has shown no destructive tendencies inside or outside his foster's home. He is both crate and potty trained, rarely barking except when outside at other dogs. Oso sleeps peacefully in his crate at night and is a good traveler in the car. He is selective with other dogs, preferring to be the only one at home or possibly sharing space with a large breed female or his son Lobo. Cats and small dogs are not suitable companions, and children in the home should be teenagers familiar with large dogs. With a moderate activity level, Oso enjoys walks of various lengths, but it's uncertain whether he's suitable for hiking or running. A fenced yard is essential as he isn't trained to be off-leash and is also strong on leash. Oso responds to commands like “sit,” “stay,” “come,” “off,” (for not jumping on his humans), and “heel” (for leash walking), but hasn't grasped "down" for laying down yet.Despite overcoming heartworm disease with comprehensive treatment, including medication and injections, Oso is now healthy with no complications. His ideal forever home would be with a single person, a couple, or a family with older children, where he can be the sole recipient of attention and care. Oso is eagerly seeking his forever home with someone ready to love and care for him throughout his life. Could that be you?He is up to date on vaccinations, on monthly heartworm and flea/tick preventatives, microchipped, has been dewormed multiple times, heartworm negative, and is neutered.FYI: The adoption fee covers transport & health certificate costs to adopters in the DMV/PA/other north east states. The dog is currently in Texas in a temporary foster home, but our transporters do runs every 2 weeks.Ready to make Oso a permanent part of your family? Story
Age: 10 months as of 4/28 Size: ~30 lbs Estimated breed: Black mouth cur mix Holly would be happiest with at least one friendly resident pup in the home!   Update from my foster 2/17: Holly and her brother Buddy came from a property of over thirty dogs in rural Texas. Holly would be happiest with at least one friendly resident pup in the home! Holly is suspected to be a Black mouth cur mix and is 7 months old. She has been already been spayed and is up to date on all her vaccines. Holly has learned a few tricks such as place (she will go into her crate), is crate trained, housebroken, will go potty on the "empty" command, knows sit, and is working on down. She loves to play hard and nap hard and once she gets comfortable with you she will nap between your legs and show affection by sniffing and nuzzling you. It takes her some time to warm up to new people but once she does, she is your very best friend. Holly would love a home with a patient owner willing to earn her trust and at least one friendly resident dog in the home to show her the ropes.    Holly and her brother Buddy came from a property of over thirty dogs in rural Texas. The owner of the property unfortunately passed away and understandably, his wife could not keep up with the care of the thirty dogs. The shelter reached out to rescue partners and asked if they could take the dogs directly from the property so they didn't have to end up in the already overcrowded shelter. We immediately said "yes" to helping these two puppies find their new forever homes!    As of 10/28, Holly is 4 months old and around 9 lbs. At best guess, she is some kind of black mouth cur mix, but we can never say for sure! Like all puppies, Holly loves playing hard and napping hard. She is learning all her manners in her foster home and can't wait to continue her training with her forever family. She has done well with all people and dogs. We have not seen her around cats or kids. Holly is looking for a forever family with the time, patience, and love to train er into the best girl she can be.    To adopt Holly, please apply on our website! www.keytolionsheart.org/adopt   Please note we cannot guarantee the age or breed of any of our animals. All of our dogs are working on their crate and house training.February 29, 2024, 7:43 pm
