Story
Max is a super sweet boy looking for a loving home of his own. He is a little shy when he first meets people, but we promise that Max will show you what a sweet, silly, and outgoing guy he is after just a few minutes! Max is extremely eager to learn and loves going for zooms in the yard and walks in the woods. He will do best with a family with the time and patience to help him get comfortable and give him all the love and care he needs to be confident. Max recently went for a 2-week sleepover with a couple of his volunteer besties! We learn so much about pups in our care when they go to a home. "Max was a perfect gentleman during his stay! He was an easy, gentle dog to live with. We fell in love as we got to know him! - Max's Vibe: We ran Max on a long leash daily. He needed to get zoomies out! He loves hiking in the woods, running in fields, and playing with sticks. Inside, he was happy to lie around and occasionally play with toys. He was never hyper or destructive. - Potty Training: Max sometimes excitedly peed when seeing us after a few hours. He was otherwise fully housetrained! Most days, he only peed once or twice. It didn't seem like nervous behavior, but he needed a "reason." Max would pee multiple times if we took him on a long hike or somewhere other dogs had been. - Personal Space: Max's way of showing affection is to sit as close as possible and gaze at us! He liked to touch us while napping. Once asleep, Max wanted a little more space. While deeply asleep, he growled when we touched his paws. But he was great at sharing the couch, moved if asked, didn't guard space, and was perfectly fine with us handling his paws when awake! - Training + Treats: Max was exceptionally intuitive about tone and body language. It felt like he could read our minds, responding to words and gestures like he knew what we wanted. He likes treats, but praise is just as effective a reward! - Strangers: Max met a few people outside the house. For the most part, he was his timid self. But two people gave Max a funny feeling, and he turned into a bit of a guard dog. His hackles were a good early indicator of if he thought someone was a threat. **Please Note** Our pet listings update automatically every 4 hours, so they are as current as possible. Story
WISE is entirely volunteer-run and all of the donations made to our rescue go directly back to the animals in our care. By partnering with veterinary practices that support our work, we are able to save animals’ lives and restore them back to health. While some animals only need standard care, others require more extensive veterinary or behavioral care. Regardless of which dog you are applying for, we are looking for adopters to support our program with a minimum donation of $850. The donation may or may not be directly applied to care of the dog you're adopting but rather goes toward supporting all of the dogs in the rescue. We appreciate the understanding of our potential adopters. Please keep this in mind prior to applying. Name: Thomas Breed: Black Mouth Cur x Rat Terrier mix Weight: Approx 35lbs Age: 2 years old Home Recommendation: Thomas is ready to soak up all your love and affection! With his moderate energy level, he's equally content playing in the yard or nestled beside you on the couch. Thomas adores the company of both humans and fellow canines. Thomas is pint-sized which makes him the perfect sidekick for any adventure! Personality: Thomas is as sweet as they come – playful, cuddly, and always down for a good time. His favorite hobby? Being by your side, whether you're out for a walk or binge-watching your favorite series. His favorite hobbies include tug-of-war, making new doggy friends, and checking out the neighborhood on walks. He is happy to occupy himself chewing on a bone or Kong toy. If you're after a fun-loving buddy who's also a pro snuggler, Thomas is your man! Kids: 6+ Dogs: Yes! He is currently being fostered with another dog and does great! Cats: unknown Crate Trained: Thomas prefers to be left in an enclosed space or room. He is not destructive when left alone. House Trained: Doing great! He usually will stand by the door when he wants to go outside but may have an occasional accident. Training: He is very eager to please and treat motivated. He already mastered "sit" and will happily learn more if treats are involved. Thomas is initially excited when he first walks on a leash but then he settles down and does nicely. His foster parents are teaching him puppy manners to help make him a distinguished gentleman! Why did he come to WISE? Thomas was rescued from a local municipal shelter after he was found as a stray. He is doing fantastic in his foster home and can't wait to find his forever family!

Story
Meet Foxy! Foxy is a very loving and amazing girl and looks like she is a black mouth cur! We don’t know her breed mix for sure, but we absolutely adore her! Foxy is about 2 years old and 48 pounds. Foxy is perfectly crate trained and loves her crate, it’s her den to enjoy all her treats and toys! She is also perfectly potty trained and is doing well on the leash. She does still pull a bit, but she currently lives on a farm and can’t wait to see all the sights! Foxy loves to play with other dogs and she is very agile and runs like the wind! Foxy gives the best hugs and kisses, and has done well meeting the foster grandkids! Foxy can be a bit timid and will do better in a calm and quiet environment as loud noises can scare her a bit. Interested in becoming a forever home for Foxy? Fill out our online adoption application: http://www.friendswithfourpaws.org/adoption-form.html This is the first step in our process, and we don't go any further without an application. Find more adoptable pets, news and information on Instagram @friendswithfourpaws or our Facebook page Friends with Four Paws . We put a lot of time and energy into processing our adoptions to find our babies the best fit home for them and you. Please do not submit an application if you are not serious about adopting Foxy. We are so excited to work with you to find you a new forever friend, and Foxy the perfect forever home, and appreciate you working with us. For immediate consideration, please attach your application to the initial inquiry to help us expedite the process. Our adoption fee is $525. This includes their spay/neuter surgery, full (age appropriate) vaccinations, microchip insertion and registration, deworming, heartworm testing and prevention, flea and tick prevention and travel expenses. All of our dogs are rescued from local shelters and the general public. Each dog is then placed in a foster home where he/she is kept for quarantine, to ensure if the dog gets sick it can receive proper treatment. We have foster homes in the NJ/NY area waiting to receive their fosters. Once an animal has received an application or there's an adopter interested, we make arrangements for transport. If a dog is already in foster care in NYC/NJ, an adopter will be put in touch with the foster home AFTER an application is being processed. Thank you in advance for your patience with our process and for making adoption YOUR option!

Someone just dropped these two sweet brothers off and drove away, leaving them to fend for themselves. At 10 pounds and 2 weeks old! A kind neighbor called the rescue and, of course we had to say yes! Now both of them are looking to be adopted into their own forever homes. They are both just as sweet as pie, playful, love time with each other and other dogs and are just as silly and goofy as a puppy should this. These boys will need love and guidance, but we are positive that they are destined to be great dogs! They are being fostered in Tennessee, but they will be brought to your area by animal-friendly transport on the road - Rescue Riders Pet Transport. Just press the big button marked "Ask About Me" and we will get you the information on how to make Johnson your newest family member!

Story
Roo is a stray found in Raymond, Mississippi when she was about 4 months old. She has the most beautiful blue eyes and softest coat ever! She is golden brown in color with the long legs and ears of a hound. Roo is dog, people, and children friendly. She loves to play and is super sweet. Roo loves to run and play. She needs plenty of room to play, as she is a high energy dog; however, once she plays and expends her energy, she does settle down nicely. At one time, she was with a foster family who had 3 children and several dogs. She loved the children and dogs and played with them well. Roo is now boarding, and she desperately needs a forever home! Roo is being cared for in Mississippi but we do transport. We use the most animal-friendly transport on the road.
