Story
Neveah / F / 3Y / 40lbs / Blue Lacy x Boxer Mix / Good with People / Good with Dogs / Good with Children / Good with Cats / Happy Couch Potato / Fenced Backyard Preferred / From Tennessee / Fostered in Toronto
Meet Neveah! Her fosters describe her as an affectionate, cuddly couch-potato. She is a love bug who is always ready for a good belly rub. Neveah was taken in by our rescue partner after her owners brought her to the vet and couldn’t afford the cost of her treatment. Neveah was hit by a car and dragged, she suffered from a broken leg and a couple of fractures to her pelvis among other surface trauma leaving her with some scars. Since being in our care she has made great progress in her healing, but has a chronic limp and requires pain management.
Neveah's accident has not dimmed her sparkle. Neveah can often be found rolling in the grass, swimming (weather permitting) or lounging on the couch. If you’re looking for a calm, quiet snuggle buddy - Neveah is your gal!
With people she knows, Neveah is excited and loving. She greets you with tail wags and the occasional sloppy kiss. While out in the neighbourhood she tends to ignore strangers, but if given the chance she will happily greet them and accept lots of pets. Neveah does not currently live with children, but has spent time with them and does well. She has a good sense of matching others' energy so we think she will do well in a home with respectful children who understand proper dog etiquette.
Neveah's ideal family will be committed to continuing her training and be understanding of possible limitations due to her past injury. She needs a patient family, who is willing to go at her low-key pace. A home that allows for easy access to the outdoors is necessary, and a yard where she can sniff and explore would be a bonus. She has worked hard on her potty and rarely has any accidents in the house now. However, her new family should expect accidents while she learns her house manners and adjusts to a new living situation.
Neveah has lived with other dogs most of her life and does well. She enjoys the companionship of a doggy friend, but is a calm girl and can be overwhelmed at times by loud, high energy dogs. She is best suited for canine pals who are well balanced and go at her pace. Although Neveah's not currently living with a cat she has spent time with them in the past and did well. She is a great candidate to join a home with, or without, other pets.
Due to her previous injury, Neveah enjoys slower paced walks where she can sniff and explore. She loves to play with puzzle toys and when given the opportunity loves to run and swim at the beach. Neveah is a smart girl who already knows many basic commands. Her love of treats makes her an easy candidate for learning. As she is not fully house-trained yet, she enjoys the comfort of her crate overnight, and when home alone.
Since her accident, Neveah has come a long way in healing. Unfortunately, she does have pain that is managed daily. She is currently on Gabapentin, a long term medication and will need to continue to take it. The approximate cost is $52/month. She also has Alopecia showing on the top of her head. Neveah’s new family should be prepared for the maintenance of her pain medication and understanding her possible limitations.
