ABOUT SMURFETTE
Smurfette is a gentle girl who is still learning that the world isn't so scary. She came to HAP from a high-intake shelter in Georgia when they no longer had space for her. Before making her way to us, Smurfette had raised a litter of puppies of her own, all of whom went on to find homes. But her job as a momma wasn't quite finished yet! When another litter of young puppies arrived at the shelter, still too little to survive on their own, Smurfette stepped up to become the mom they desperately needed. After already raising her own babies, she welcomed the orphaned pups as if they were hers, nursing and caring for them until they were strong enough to thrive. In total, Smurfette helped nourish and care for more than a dozen puppies before finally getting the chance to focus on herself. Now, after giving so much, it's Smurfette's turn to be taken care of!
Since arriving at HAP, Smurfette's confidence has continued to grow! Understandably, after everything she's been through, she can still be a bit of a nervous nellie and appreciates people who are willing to move at her pace. It may take a few minutes of sweet talking and patience to earn her trust, but once she realizes you're a friend, her gentle, affectionate personality begins to shine through!
Smurfette has made especially amazing progress with other dogs and has found confidence in having canine friends by her side! She enjoys going for long walks with her doggy pals before settling in for some snuggles with her favorite humans. When she feels safe and comfortable, she's perfectly content sitting quietly beside you, soaking up all the gentle pets and affection you're willing to give! After spending so much of her life taking care of others, Smurfette is ready for a family to take care of her!
