Story
Turtle is a handsome Poodle with the sweetest face and the longest little legs, but behind his gentle eyes is a very scared boy who has never known what it means to feel safe. Rescued from a puppy mill, Turtle is understandably fearful and unsure of the world around him. He’s still learning that gentle hands, kind voices, soft beds, and loving people are nothing to be afraid of. Everything is new to him, and he will need a patient, understanding family who is willing to let him come out of his shell at his own pace. Turtle is not currently a confident or social dog, and his fear can cause him to react defensively when he feels overwhelmed or frightened. For Turtle comfort and safety, he should not go to a home with young children. A calm household with older, respectful children or adults who understand and respect his boundaries would be a much better fit. Turtle would likely do best with another confident, well-balanced canine companion who can help show him that the world isn’t so scary. A confident dog may give Turtle the reassurance he needs as he learns how to be a dog outside of the puppy-mill environment. Turtle may not be ready to run up for attention or immediately accept affection, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t have so much love waiting inside him. With time, patience, consistency, and positive experiences, we hope he’ll discover just how wonderful life can be. His forever family will need to understand that earning Turtles trust will be a journey, not a race. He needs someone who will give him space to decompress, celebrate his small victories, and show him every day that he is finally safe. Turtle has spent his life being overlooked. Now, he’s looking for someone who will look at his scared little face and say, “You’re home.” His journey may take time, but we believe this sweet boy is worth every single step.
