Story
Meet Happy! This sweet girl is looking for a patient and understanding home that can help her continue learning what it means to feel safe, loved, and cared for. Coming from a hoarding situation, Happy missed out on many of the experiences puppies need to confidently navigate the world. She is undersocialized and can be fearful of new people and unfamiliar situations. Happy takes time and patience (and snacks) to warm up, but once she starts to trust you, her sweet nature shows through. When Happy arrived in care, she was extremely underweight and had to be placed carefully on a refeeding plan. Food is still the highlight of her world, so her future family will need to understand that her relationship with food comes from survival instincts and she is prone to scavenging. As she learns to be safe, she will need supervision to learn safe habits. Happy absolutely adores playing with canine companions and finds a lot of comfort in their presence. A confident canine companion may help her to continue building confidence. Watching a dog like her slowly discover safety, trust, and love is an incredibly rewarding journey. Happy is ready to start that next chapter in her life and have a patient home who will celebrate even her smallest victories! A note from Happy's foster family... Happy truly does have a joyful dog in her heart, waiting for the right family to nurture her so that her happiness can shine. She has some fear surrounding transitioning, for example, from the bedroom to outside, or from outside to the car. There has been a definite improvement in her voracious appetite, even leaving some kibble in her dish when she was full! Since she has come to my home, Happy has really come out of her shell. Happy can also walk on leash with patient reassurance, and going at a pace that is comfortable for her. She plays with my young, small female dog, enthusiastically (but gently) wrestling, running around on the deck, or playing steal the one toy out of the pile of so many toys from one another. The best thing to see is that she wags her tail now, and it almost looks like there's a smile on her face.If Happy sounds like the right fit for your home, please fill in an application below! https://spca.bc.ca/adoption/dog-pre-adoption-questionnaire/ Primary Color: Black Secondary Color: White Weight: 19.1 Age: 1yrs 3mths 1wks
