Story
3-1-24: Updated pics. (Est. DOB mid August 2023): SWEETIE PIE is a fantastic and smart young pup! She's spayed, current on vaccinations, microchipped, house trained, loves car rides, knows hand and verbal commands and is a complete tomboy playing and running throughout the large yard full of big boys! When she's not playing or napping in the sun, she's playing fetch with her human (me)! SWEETIE has additional pics posted on our Facebook page. She is completely healed from her amputation and loves living in a home and a big yard filled with lots of doggies in all shapes, sizes, ages and with various "disabilities"! She runs, wrestles, digs holes, sleeps, plays, chases them all day long, so her body and leg strength continues to improve by leaps and bounds, playing all day long with her dog friends! She is house trained, is learning her verbal and hand commands, knows how to fetch, runs and walks up and down ramps and walks on leash with ease! She is extremely affectionate and loving and is beautiful to watch her come out of her shell and welcoming the trusting hand and time with humans! She is a great young, smart, girl who loves car rides, walks on leash, exploring and plenty of stuffed animals and toys! SWEETIE PIE is scheduled to be spayed, microchipped and receive her 3rd dhpp vaccination on Jan. 5, 2024. (She has already had her Rabies vaccination.) 11/29/23: MEET SWEETIE PIE -- our 3.5 month old, very special, very smart, beautiful, sweet as ever, 3-legged Border Collie! She will have her post surgical exam and stitches removed today and will also be given her 2nd set of DHPP and first Rabies vaccinations. (Her 3rd round of DHPP vaccs will be due the end of December 2023/1st week of January 2024). SWEETIE PIE is doing great on leash, she is pee pad trained (woo hoo!), loves to travel (is a perfect passenger) in the SUV (needs to be loaded and unloaded), and is working through her shyness with humans which is only natural and is just a matter of time. She had her first official mani-pedi with our prof. groomer and even though she is very ticklish, she nibbled at Mandy and wanted it to be play time--she got it!! She adores attention and affection and is the sweetest girl ever! She is very smart and is already fetching/retrieving! She is not a "chewing" puppy, is not a barker, is extremely attentive and intelligent! She has not been allowed to run/play freely with other dogs until she is fully vaccinated and healed, but loves to spend time meeting and seeing them at a safe distance. All tailes-a-waggin'!! Note: We do not have children or cats in our home rescue/sanctuary, however, children who are taught to respect animals, should be fine. SWEETIE PIE IS HEALTHY AND WOULD BE A VERY LOVING, AFFECTIONATE, FUN ADDITION TO ANY FAMILY! SHE IS NOW READY FOR HER SPECIAL FUREVER HOME! (Adoption App/Agreement states Adopter must show proof of her continuing her vaccination schedule and being spayed by 6 months of age (February 2024). We do not transport/ship/fly our adoptable doggies. :-) 11/20/23: Our Rescue friends were called about SWEETIE and her litter mates who were found in a rural area of southern New Mexico known for dumping dogs, puppies, cats and kittens. Unfortunately (and fortunately), SWEETIE immediately caught their attention because of her obviously painful leg trauma. This strong willed little girl is lucky to be alive and thriving.--even (reluctantly but starting to come around in a short time) trusting humans. She was able to be caught (she really didn't even run away, but hobbled toward the rescuers!) on Sunday 11/12/23, was cleaned up with her leg being looked at closely, given a big bowl of good food and clean water, de-wormed and tucked into a warm bed to sleep along with other rescued pups that evening before being brought to Puppy Dog Ranch Rescue & Sanctuary. The trauma to her leg must have been caused very early in her age, as it was already healed but with the leg bone sticking out of the flesh 4". I can't imagine the pain she must have endured and she's lucky to not have been attacked or killed by other dogs or animals. By the looks of it, and the area she was found in, we all assume it must have happened when she was very young and was not seen and run over by farm equipment. She is lucky to be alive. Wow. The next morning we sent the pics to our vet and he requested that she be driven there (an hour away) asap. That afternoon, after she was given flea and tic preventatives (the fleas were hopping all over her and the room as well as my vehicle from the trip!) and prepped and filled with antibiotics, etc. her leg bone was cut off and amputated to the thigh. The thigh bone and muscles were left so that they would help her balance. She has been recuperating extremely well, never touched the stitches so I could take her cone of shame off the very next day; has been dewormed, and on 11/19 she received her first puppy dhpp vaccination. She is healing at turbo speed, was walked outside on leash and wearing a harness (she was a bit scared, but will adjust the more often she is outside - no other dogs around her for another 2 weeks) and is ready to get out of the cozy, warm small room and wants to meet the other rescued doggies-especially Beso, another 3 legged medium size doggy. She is very sweet (thus, her name) and soaks up attention. She is very smart and is in tune with every move, as well as every sound and movement around her and in her environment. She is a good good girl. We do not transport, ship, drive or fly our dogs. We believe that the first step toward a 15 year commitment with making the trip to meet the doggy. We promote sleepovers prior to adoption to pre-approved adopters. Meet-n-greets must include all residents of household, including pets. An adequately fenced yard with locking gates is mandatory. We do not allow dogs to live outside of the home or to be left outdoors for any length of time. Please contact us if you have questions or would like an adoption application to be emailed to you.
