Story
Berkley is an 8.5-year-old Boston Terrier with a sweet soul and a love for life’s simple pleasures—treats and gentle chin scratches! This lovely girl enjoys a calm, relaxed environment where she can soak up attention and bond with her people. Berkley would likely do best in a home without small children, where her space and comfort can be respected. She is up to date on vaccinations, has been heartworm tested, and will be spayed soon. If you’re looking for a loyal, low-key companion who will happily lean in for scratches and snacks, Berkley might just be your perfect match. 🐾

Story
Hi, I'm Romeo! I was brought here as a tiny puppy from a place where I was barely getting fed. I was adopted shortly after and recently got returned due to weird circumstances. I suddenly had two injuries- one was my eye which needs to be removed and the other is much more. I have a torn cruciate ligament. The shelter is currently raising money to pay for my surgery but I will need a place to stay for 6-8 weeks with cage rest so I can recover. I'm a sweet boy and get along with everyone, even livestock!  If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve me for an appointment. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! All of our pets are neutered or spayed, have vaccinations appropriate for their age, treated with flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormed and dogs are also microchipped. #adoptdontshop ##2352756##

Story
Meet Ian – Your Slightly Wonky, Totally Wonderful Adventure Buddy If you like piña coladas and getting caught in the rain… Ian might just be your perfect match. This little Boston Terrier mix lives life full throttle—zooming through the yard like he’s racing in the Indy 500, making pit stops in imaginary swamps with Shrek, and embracing every muddy, joy-filled moment along the way (bonus points if you don’t mind getting a little dirty with him). Ian is a young, playful pup with a heart as big as his personality. He came into rescue with a shattered hip that has since healed, leaving him with an adorable “wonky” gait. When he runs, his back leg sometimes flails out to the side—but it doesn’t slow him down one bit. If anything, it just makes him even more unforgettable. Personality & Play Style: Ian is a social, toy-loving goofball who thrives on fun. He always has a toy in his mouth—seriously, always. He’ll take them outside, bring them back in, and politely “check” them at the door until you hand them back. He loves playing with other dogs, especially games of chase and keep-away. After playtime, Ian enjoys winding down with his favorite toy and appreciates a little personal space during his chill time. Because of this, he’d do best with a laid-back, respectful dog companion—especially one around his size or slightly smaller who won’t bother him when he’s relaxing. Snuggles Included: Once the zoomies are out, Ian is all about couch time. He’ll curl up beside you, toy in tow, and drift off while you watch TV. The perfect mix of playful and snuggly. Communication Style (aka his signature move): Ian has the best voice—a raspy, screechy, baby pterodactyl sound that he proudly uses to let you know when he’s ready to come out of his crate or needs a potty break. It’s hilarious, endearing, and very effective. He’ll also quietly go sit by the door, so keep an eye out—he’s a good boy who just needs you to notice his polite signals. Mealtime & Care: Ian is an enthusiastic foodie, so he uses a slow feeder bowl to keep mealtime safe and comfortable. Medical Transparency: Due to his past injury, Ian has diabetes insipidus. The good news: • No injections required • Managed with oral medication twice daily • Just needs a few extra potty breaks His condition is well-managed, and he’s living a happy, active, zoomie-filled life. The Perfect Home for Ian: • An active home that enjoys play, laughter, and a little chaos • A consistent adopter who can manage his simple medical routine • A respectful dog companion—or he’d love being your one and only • Someone who appreciates a quirky, lovable personality Ian isn’t just a dog—he’s an experience. He’ll make you laugh daily, keep life interesting, and then curl up next to you like he’s always belonged there. Local adoption fee is $200 (in TX) Out of state adoption fee is $450 (includes transport to your area)

Story
Meet Boston Cream, a brilliant and sweet-natured soul who is discovering just how wonderful life can be! True to her name, she is a total treat—a "smart as heck" girl who impresses everyone with how quickly she masters new tricks and expands her vocabulary. Boston Cream is the ultimate companion for someone who loves a balanced lifestyle; she’s always ready for a spirited game of fetch or a round of "zoomies" (complete with adorable jumps and spins!), but she is equally skilled at the art of the afternoon nap. While she is still transitioning from her life as an adventurous outdoor girl to a pampered indoor lady, she is making wonderful progress with her house manners and is already a pro at keeping things tidy. Because she cherishes her personal space and has a strong, focused personality, she may thrive best as the "only child" in a home where she can soak up all the affection she deserves. She’s a brave girl who is learning to trust the world again, and once she settles into her kennel or a cozy corner, she is calm and content. Boston Cream is looking for a patient heart to continue showing her that the world is a gentle place—and in return, she’ll give you all the loyalty and cleverness she’s been saving up!
