Story
Meet Jackson Jackson is stunning, matched only by his incredibly sweet and affectionate personality. If you are looking for your soul dog, your best friend, your ultimate companion, let Jackson be it. Jackson is very sensitive and wants to always do the right thing. He is amazing. Like so many great dogs, Jackson found himself on the euth list at a high kill shelter. With a huge advocacy team trying to get him to safety, Jackson was brought to our attention. Jackson is four years old. Our best guess is that he’s a boxer, French bulldog mix, but it’s hard to really know. His ears live in another zip code lol, and he has the most soulful eyes that just pierce your heart. Jackson is 55 lbs. of pure love. Jackson is friendly, out-going, athletic, smart, confident, easy-going, well-mannered, housetrained, and loving. He loves treats and takes them from your hand as gentle as a lamb. Jackson loves being with people. He would be good with kids (who are taught to interact with a dog properly.) He gets so excited when he’s taken out of his kennel, but he quickly settles down to a happy stroll. Jackson likes other dogs and does well with them. A kennel environment is so stressful for dogs, but when he walks by the other dogs barking at him, he shows no reaction. He enjoys running the fence line with his friends in other yards. He would probably do well with another active dog in the home, but not necessary, just a good option. Jackson is good with cats as well. And, he loves car rides. Jackson would love to be your hiking companion, your neighborhood walk guy, your lunch buddy and your curl up and watch tv boy. Jackson loves sunning in the yard and a fenced yard will be a must. He’s been through a lot and the demeanor he presents and his love for simply being alive are incredible. We’re doing everything we can to keep his spirits up. He’s receiving a lot of attention, lots of yard time, treats and love, but we hope his forever family or person finds him soon. Jackson is a dog of a lifetime and deserves to be in a loving home. If interested in Jackson, please submit an application online at: www.charlessmithgallhumanesociety.org. Please email our shelter (smithgallhumanesociety@windstream.net) to make sure we received your application. All adopters must complete an approval process which involves a reference check with current/recent vet and a brief home visit if located in the immediate area. We do permit out-of-state adoptions. Adopters MUST come to the shelter to transport their new family member home. We do not ship, nor do we transport them to their new homes. Adoption policies and application procedures are detailed at the shelter website: http://charlessmithgallhumanesociety.org/ under tab All Adoptable Animals. Charles Smithgall Humane Society (CSHS) is a No kill shelter. Animals in our care remain safe with us until adopted. Resident animals are either owner relinquished rescued from area Animal Controls or high kill shelters. The facility usually operates at capacity with a list of animals waiting for space to open.

Story
Meet Angus Angus is an exceptional dog. We pulled Angus out of a high kill shelter before his time was up. His only crimes was being overlooked for too long in favor of younger dogs and puppies. We’re so happy we got Angus to safety because he is a really really, really good pup. Angus is a 7.8 year-old boy. He looks to be a mix of Boxer with Basenji or American bulldog, but it’s hard to know without a DNA test. He is a large dog (65 lbs.) with long legs and a slim body. He has a handsome face with arresting ears. He is absolutely gorgeous. Angus seemed to have been loved at one point in life because he is so friendly, gentle and calm with impeccable manners. He has a regal presence and quiet pride. Angus loves treats and scratches. He is great on a leash and walks easily and leisurely. He knows many commands. He loves people, he's become dog selective (some no problem, and others not so much, it just depends) and we can test him with cats. Angus is athletic and would enjoy hikes and adventures. Angus may be housetrained. Angus is fully vetted, in good health and neutered. This boy was saved for a reason and we know his perfect home is out there for him. As a no kill shelter, Angus will have all the time he needs to find his perfect home. He is going to make a person or family so happy. If interested in giving Angus a loving home and second chance, please submit an application online at: www.charlessmithgallhumanesociety.org. Story
Meet Davis Can you say sweet? Can you say incredibly sweet…possibly the sweetest? We can…about Davis! We rescued Davis from a high kill shelter so he could make someone’s or a family’s life rich and full of love. Davis has been nothing short of amazing since arriving. I don’t think we’re exaggerating. Some dogs just possess the sweet gene and Davis, despite all he’s been through, has it. Davis is about 2.5 years old. He weighs 51 lbs. He looks like a Boxer/Shar Pei mix (lots of cute wrinkles!), but small in size. He has a beautiful coat, warm brown eyes that beseech you, and an earnestness to do good that will melt your heart. He LOVES people and dogs, but no cats for Davis. Davis loves attention. He loves being loved on and in return he gives doggie kisses. Davis walks easily on a leash. He is a happy companion in strolling and sniffing. He loves to take it all in. Davis travels well. He has good, happy energy, but has a calm and snuggly side. He settles quickly. A fenced yard will be important for Davis so he can run and play safely. Davis is well-adjusted and is ready to embrace a family who will love and protect him. He will make for a wonderful companion given his easy-going ways and his sweet and friendly disposition. If interested in welcoming Davis to your heart and home, please submit an application online at: www.charlessmithgallhumanesociety.org. Please use the downloadable application found on our homepage. Story
Meet Magnolia Magnolia has captured our hearts. Rescued from a high kill shelter, Magnolia has been a gem since she arrived. We don’t know a lot about her past except that she was picked up wandering the streets. Magnolia is about 1.5 years old. She is thought to be a white boxer/terrier mix, although she seems more boxer. She has the most precious underbite and while she looks like she is pouting, she’s a super happy and outgoing young pup. Magnolia is 44 lbs. of love and fun. She is well-socialized, silly, and playful. She is an easy walk on the leash and loves strolling around. She is perfect for those neighborhood walks, hikes in the hills, or breakfast at the local coffee house. She loves playing with water and a hose is quite a treat. Magnolia likes people and loves attention. She’d probably do well with kids and she does great with cats. Magnolia tested well with other pups at the shelter where she was before us. When we tested her with some of our pups, she had a mixed reaction. She wasn’t aggressive, she’d sniff and move on. We’re not quite sure what she prefers, and it will be a matter of testing her with a potential adopter’s dog. She is super chill, but when you’re ready to go, Magnolia is ready to go with you. She’ll make for a great ride-along-dog. She has the cutest, high-pitched bark, a bark that you wouldn’t expect out of a little girl like her. But we guarantee it will make you smile. Magnolia is not yet housetrained, but she is smart and with some consistency she would learn what to do. She is a pleaser and just wants to be loved. She is affectionate, friendly, gentle, and sweet. This girl will grace your heart and home with laughter and love. She is a little gem. If interested in welcoming Magnolia to your family and making her dreams come true, please submit an application online at: www.charlessmithgallhumanesociety.org. 🔥 Meet Buddy Boy. The Ride-or-Die Kind of Dog. 🐾 Buddy Boy is smart, loyal, and deeply devoted to his people. Once you’re in his circle, you are IN. He’s house-trained, loves a good game of fetch, enjoys a swim, and will happily chew his way through an afternoon like it’s his full-time job. Now for the real talk, because Buddy deserves honesty, not hype. Buddy needs an adult-only home. Kids and teens stress him out, and when he feels unsure, he gets protective of his people and his space. That doesn’t make him “bad.” It makes him a dog who needs clear rules, structure, and humans who know what they’re doing. The good news? With boundaries and consistency, Buddy absolutely shines. He’s been in foster care long-term and has done great with calm leadership and routine. This isn’t a huge ask. It’s just the right match. More real training and follow-through will make Buddy and his humans a solid team. In the right home, Buddy Boy will be your loyal shadow, your goofy sidekick, and your “I got you” best friend for life. 💛 If you’re experienced with strong, sensitive dogs and ready for a deep bond with a truly special boy, Buddy is ready to meet you. 👉 Start here: https://new.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/CPRG/Dog Buddy Boy doesn’t need everyone. He just needs his person. 🐾

Meet Dahlia 🏃‍♀️💨💛 🎂 Age: 4 years ⚖️ Weight: ~50 lbs 🐕 Breed: Mixed Breed (Large) / American Pit Bull Terrier 🚺 Gender: Female 📅 Intake Date: 02/21/2024 🏡 Rehoming donation: $300 About Dahlia Fast legs. Soft heart. Big second-chance energy. Dahlia is a stunning, athletic girl with a signature goofy ear and a whole lot of potential just waiting for the right person to unlock it. Personality Dahlia is smart, driven, and deeply sensitive. She may be a little unsure at first, especially with men, but once she bonds, she bonds hard. She’s loyal, affectionate, and full of love for her person. She’s also very treat-motivated, which makes her a great student and a fun dog to work with. Perfect Home Dahlia is looking for a calm, experienced home with someone who understands working or high-energy breeds. Ideally, a one-person household where she can build trust, stick to a routine, and feel secure. A fenced yard and an outlet for her energy (think walks, training, or even a “job”) will help her thrive. Behavior & Training Notes Dahlia is not a beginner dog, but she is absolutely a worth-it dog. She would thrive with professional training and consistency. She’s eager, intelligent, and wants to succeed. With the right guidance, she will blossom into an incredibly devoted companion. Health Spayed and fully vaccinated. Dahlia was left behind when her people moved away. Since then, shelter life has been tough on her. The stress is real, and she needs out of that environment and into a home where she can finally relax, learn, and feel safe again. Why You’ll Love Dahlia She’s the kind of dog who gives you her whole heart. The kind who will run beside you, learn with you, and stand by you once she knows she’s home for good. Dahlia isn’t for everyone, but for the right person, she’s everything. Visit www.castoffpetrescue.org and apply for adoption. Dahlia is ready to stop surviving and start living. 💛🐾
