Story
We got Bandit from the shelter late last year. He is a really good dog when you are at home. He is very very sweet and loving with my young kids, leaves my dog hating cats alone, and would cuddle all day if you let him. He is really excited to greet you when you get home and is attached at your hip. Unfortunately he has really bad separation anxiety and neither me or my husband are home during the day. He has escaped every crate we have tried, will go through the trash, eat any food left out, has chewed a few toys, and will jump up on everything. There are times we come home and he hasn’t done anything, but it’s a common theme. He would be a perfect family dog for a family with kids who is home more often and has a yard he can go in when left, or someone with more time and the means to get him some training. He is SWEET and very loving and needs a forever family.

Story
Ruger is an 8-month-old active puppy who loves other dogs and every person he meets. He weighs about 48 lbs. He does really well in the car. Ruger recently spent a week in a home with four cats. He made friends with two and the other two ignored him and stayed upstairs. Ruger was curious and wanted to smell them, but if the cats asserted themselves, he backed away and left them alone. Ruger is good on the leash and often wants to carry the leash in his mouth. He is also pretty good about staying with his human when walking without a leash (in a confined area) – for us it’s the woods around our house. Ruger is housebroken and will go sit by the door when he needs to go out or scratch at the door. Ruger will sleep in a crate but prefers to be in bed with a human (or a comfy recliner). He has not had any issues going to the vet and being touched by strangers. Ruger learns quickly and has a great nose on him. He has learned what ice is, so for anyone adopting that has an icemaker they will need to pay the “ice tax” and give Ruger a cube. Ruger enjoys toys, bones, treats of all kinds, pinecones, and sticks of all sizes. He does not mind wearing sweaters, jackets, or his harness. When he sees a leash, he gets excited because he thinks he is going somewhere. He is very sweet and loving. When he can’t sit on the chair with his foster mom he will lay at her feet. Ruger likes to supervise everything his human does. I personally feel that with his quickness to learn and his great disposition that he would make a good service dog. He has not been evaluated. Only negatives are that he will sometimes jump up and try to grab your fingers with his mouth as you walk by. Not all the time, but occasionally.

Story
Bossy along with his brother and sister were found after being abandoned on a back road. They were very skittish, and it took a while to trap them. They had either not had much human interaction, or the interaction they had was not positive. Bossy is a shy pup who’s still learning to trust the world around him. He has just started letting us walk him on a leash. This means he can get out and play with the other dogs too, which he really enjoys. With patience, love, and a quiet environment, Bossy is sure to continue gaining confidence and will make a great companion for the right person or family. He would probably do best with a confident dog sibling to show him the ropes. His birthday is 4/24/22, he is neutered, up to date on shots, and weighs 35lbs.  *************************************************************************** This pet comes with an implanted 24 PetWatch microchip and free registration into the 24PetWatch pet recovery service. *************************************************************************** This dog is available for adoption at the Humane Society of McCormick County is SC for an adoption fee. Story
Meet Princess, a sweet and gentle pup who’s looking for a family to help her build confidence and show her the love she deserves! Princess and her two brothers were found after being abandoned on a back road. They were very skittish, and it took a while to trap them. They had either not had much human interaction, or the interaction they had was not positive. Princess made some progress at the shelter, but we felt like she needed more one-on-one attention. She entered the Leash on Life Prison Pup Program in July of 2024, where she’s been working hard on socialization and gaining trust. Born on 4/20/23, Princess is a playful 40-pound bundle of joy who’s spayed, microchipped, and up to date on all her shots.  Princess is shy at first, but once she warms up, she blossoms into a playful, energetic companion. She loves fetch, tug of war, and playing with other dogs—she even thinks she’s as big as a Great Dane! She’s also a bit of a goofball, enjoying outdoor adventures like playing with bugs. But when it’s time to relax, Princess is a total couch potato and may snuggle up on your lap for some extra love if she's in the mood. This smart girl already knows several commands, including “sit,” “down,” “stay,” “place,” and “come,” and she walks beautifully on a loose leash. She’s also housetrained and will wait for her "eat-eat" command before mealtime—especially impressive because Princess is highly food-motivated, making training easier! While she’s cautious of new people and may bark when she first meets someone, Princess isn’t aggressive and just needs time to feel comfortable. She’s very observant and likes to take things at her own pace, so patience and understanding will help her come out of her shell. She’s a little wary of big birds (who can blame her?) and tends to shy away from strangers on walks, but with the right guidance, she’ll continue to grow in confidence. Princess is a loving, calm, and loyal companion who’s ready to find her forever home. If you’re looking for a sweet pup to be your lap dog, playmate, and best friend, Princess might just be the perfect match for you! Could you be the one to give Princess the happy ending she’s been waiting for? *************************************************************************** This pet comes with an implanted 24 PetWatch microchip and free registration into the 24PetWatch pet recovery service. *************************************************************************** This dog is available for adoption at the Humane Society of McCormick County is SC for an adoption fee.
