In my last update I said we were working on squirrels. Today she was able to sit and watch the squirrel without reactivity. I taught her to sit when she sees other animals she reacts to because that’s what’s we’ve found works for us, and this way I can keep control of the situation and reward her for being a good girl.  Don’t let the number of days in the rescue turn you off from wanting to meet this good girl. Send in an application to meet Percy and we will come to you and show you her progress. Or you can come to us and see Percy in her comfortable environment. 8/31/25 Temporary Care Feedback: Persephone, or as she is affectionately called, Percy is an amazing little dog. Perfect pocket sized, sweet, cuddler, ready to play games and run around but also very focused. I cannot believe she isnt adopted yet, her furever family just hasn't found her yet.  While Percy is very happy in her current foster home, an area where she can safely run amuck would be incredibly beneficial for her. She happily perches on the back of the couch to watch out the window, tidily eats roma tomatoes, and loves belly rubs. Percy does get to zooming but her burst is fairly short lived. If you are looking for a delicate dancer that can race you around the house every day before collapsing in a ball of licks, laughs, and pets, you've found your gal.  5/12/25 Foster Feedback: Persephone, aka Percy,  has been in my home for just under a year, and in that time, she’s grown into an incredible, loyal companion.  She’s fully potty trained, free roams the house, and spends much of her day perched on the back of the couch, quietly watching the world go by. She still gives the occasional bark at passersby, but she’s made huge progress with that, too. While her kennel is still available, she rarely uses it, and only for very short periods when necessary. Percy enjoys her toys, chews, and bones and understands what’s hers and what’s mine. She will carry my shoes into the living room but doesn’t chew them. Percy also loves blankets. She has several of her own and will pick one up, carry it to where she wants to lay, spin around until she’s covered up, and then lay down. It’s the cutest thing.  Percy has made incredible progress on walks - we stick to a regular route, and she now ignores other fenced in dogs and will sit calmly when she spots a rabbit. Squirrels? Still working on that one! We also are able to redirect and go the other way when we see another dog walking. Since we don’t have a backyard, we go on several walks a day, plus enrichment games to keep her mentally stimulated. She occasionally gets time to run and explore in our neighbor’s fenced-in yard, which she absolutely loves. When she doesn’t get her energy out, Percy can play a bit rough, so she’d do best in a home with a fenced yard where she can safely run and sniff to her heart’s content. She’s gentle and cautious with the neighbor kids, but due to her occasional rambunctious play style, older, dog-savvy children are recommended. Percy is deeply loyal, incredibly trainable, and always by your side. She’s come such a long way and is ready for a forever home that will continue her journey with love, patience, and a little room to run. She’ll be your best little buddy.  12/9/23 Foster Feedback:  Percy is my first foster and I’ve had her since mid-October. She did such a great job on the hour long car ride home and all rides since. As others have said, she knows sit, stay, lay down, shake, high five, and roll over. We’re working on drop, touch, and I’ve also noticed after walks in the wet grass or snow that if you tell her to wipe her feet when she walks in, she will go stand on the rug and sometimes spin around a couple times. Otherwise she will sit nicely on the rug until her harness is off. Percy is the greatest roommate and will make the perfect permanent addition to someone’s family. As I’ve gotten to know Percy I think she would do best in a household where she is the only pet and has a big yard to run and play fetch. Percy has loved any human that has come to our home, and walking by the neighbor kids outside doesn’t phase her. Percy does well in a kennel. I do keep her kenneled for a few hours in the morning while I’m at work. Otherwise I leave her out and she has free rein of the house and she does just fine. Percy has slept in her kennel overnight and doesn’t make a peep. She also sleeps in my bed and I barely know she’s there. Percy enjoys her squeaky toys. We found one that she can’t seem to destroy! She likes frozen Kongs and Pupsicles, as well as a nice tug-of-war competition, and tennis ball fetch. I also got her a few enrichment feeders/toys that she’s currently learning how to use. Percy will get the zoomies for a few minutes each night but is pretty relaxed and the cuddliest pup otherwise. We’re currently working on Percy’s leash walking. I’ve seen great improvement in the last two months as Percy isn’t as reactive to other animals and doesn’t pull nearly as much. It seems she will pull until she finds a spot to potty and then relaxes, so I’ve noticed if I keep her in my yard until she goes potty the walk is more enjoyable for all. She’s well on her way to being the best leash walker. Percy is a wonderful dog, very smart, extremely cute, and will make the best addition to a lucky individual or family!  9/6/23 Foster Feedback: Percy is doing well with training! She knows sit, stay, shake, touch, down, leave it and find it. She is very eager to please her people and learn new things and loves the snacks that go along with training sessions. She is still learning off (jumping up) and leash manners. Percy still has her puppy energy but has settled in well! She enjoys having structure and goes into her crate without any issues. She sleeps in her crate all night without any fuss. She has quite the personality! She loves running laps in the backyard with a toy and gets an occasional case of the zoomies! She enjoys as many walks as she can get! Percy really is a sweet girl and deserves a loving family she can grow old with! She likes following her humans around the house and doesn’t want to miss out on anything. She will snuggle up on your lap for as long as you let her. This girl is ready to show you her personality 7/5/23 Foster Feedback: Persephone loves people! Doesn’t want to miss out on what her humans are doing! The recent fireworks did not seem to phase her. She is highly entertained by toys and tennis balls and can typically entertain herself with them; however we do play fetch in the backyard a few times a day. Persephone likes to cuddle up beside us on the couch or in our laps. She knows her name and basic commands and is also house trained. She is crate trained and does very well in there. Goes to bed without making a noise! Percy is dog-reactive when on walks. She can be redirected with treats but will need continued training on this. A home with a fenced yard or active family for running around is recommended.  6/5/23 Foster Feedback: Persephone is a sweet and playful girl that loves to cuddle and play fetch as much as you'll allow! She would be best in a non-apartment environment, due to her still working on being a bit reactive to other dogs, and loving lots of space to move around and play. She is crate trained, potty trained, and is a turning into a great listener. Persephone would love a lively home that would give her lots of love and attention! To view additional dogs available for adoption, please see our website: www.4luvofdog.org December 10, 2025, 2:38 pm

While he will gladly be friends with a smaller sibling, he would thrive more with a fur sibling the same size as or bigger than him.  Someone he does not want to be friends with is the vacuum cleaner. Whenever we use the vacuum, Charmander has to be in a different room. Luckily he is beginning to like his kennel, so he feels safe in there whenever we do bring out his sworn enemy! He has now been on two different road trips. While he would rather be in the driver’s seat with you, he also will tolerate lying down with a bone in the back. The potty training is going great! The accidents have become almost nonexistent. We are still working on listening, though. Charmander is a very smart pup with some selective listening. Along with being smart, he is very curious. Every noise or movement in the house gets his full attention. Allowing him to sniff almost everything the first time he is in a new area is how he becomes comfortable. Once he is comfortable, be prepared to be swarmed cuddles and occasional kisses! 7/25/25 Foster Home Feedback: For the last month, Charmander has been the light of our household. Since he has been here,  Charmander has developed a few different nicknames. Char, Char-Char, and Mander. If you are looking for a loyal, cuddle-bug of a companion, Charmander is your guy. While he enjoys a good, long nap on the biggest blanket in the house, he also is a big fan of play time. We are still working on staying on his side of the rope during tug-a-war, but we are getting there. When his foster parents are at work, Charmander does okay in the kennel, but he is not a fan of being in there when people are at home. We are still working on potty training as well. Charmander is almost fully potty trained, but still has an accident every once in a while. Charmander would thrive in both a single fur baby home, or a multiple member fur family. The last play date he had went very well and they could have run in circles forever! There is not much noise that comes out of this pup. He occasionally whines when he thinks he’s not getting enough attention but is easily redirected when told no. Charmander is a pup who is so full of love and would make a perfect addition to any family! 6/17/25 Volunteer Feedback: I wish there was a function on our website to feel this guy, he is soooo soft. You will just have to take my word for it until you can meet him yourself. Charmander walks great on a leash, although he has been known to chew on it so he has a chain leash now. He calmly watches other dogs as they pass by, but if you follow them, he does pull. Charmander is unbothered by other leashed dogs barking at him and continues going on his way. Alert and attentive; he watches where he is going but remembers to check in with people. Charmander calmly waits if the walker is chatting with another person and lays sweetly in the car. This little guy is quite the gentle gem. He loves flowing water and I would imagine he would love to drink from a hose. Charmander is an inquisitive, charming, and tolerant pup, always eager to learn and ready to find his forever home.  5/11/25 Foster Home Feedback: Charmander is a very sweet and loving boy. Ho loves people. He likes other dogs but his energy can be a bit much for them . He loves to play and go on walks. Charmander is not a big fan of being alone in the yard and prefers access to his human at all times. He is still working  on potty training but he has come a long way. Charmander  is also still working on manners like not counter surfing and not jumping on people but he is making improvements. To view additional dogs available for adoption, please see our website: www.4luvofdog.org December 10, 2025, 2:38 pm

Story
MEET TEAK! Teak is a 2-year-old red pit mix (possibly with some lab or Dobie mixed in) in need of a forever home! He is currently in training in Northern Minnesota. On paper he's 2 years old, but we think he's just a pup, around 1 to 1-1/2. Teak is an 80-pound boy who will make a wonderful companion once his training is done. He's a smart learner, and he needs someone who would love to help him transform into the best dog ever! He is learning to walk on a leash, as nobody ever taught him before, so would do well with someone who has a backyard and room to run. Teak was originally rescued from an overcrowded California shelter, and was one lucky boy to get saved. He's a handsome dog with a gorgeous red coat, and is always happy to see his person. He's very treat motivated. He would also do well with an active person or people who can take him for long walks, hikes and other outings, and for now would do best in an adult-only home. Please email for an application.
