Story
About Hozier:Hozier is a 7-year-old boxer cross and a total lover boy, complete with all the goofy charm and expressive personality the breed is known for. He’s affectionate, playful, and happiest when he’s part of the family. In his foster home, he’s been wonderful with the child he spends time with and has even done well living alongside a cat. Hozier enjoys his toys, likes to stay close to his people, and brings that classic boxer mix of silliness and sweetness wherever he goes.Ideal Home:Hozier would do well in a family home where he can be included in daily life and activities. He’s a social, people-oriented dog who enjoys companionship and routine. He can be selective about other dogs, so slow, thoughtful introductions or a home where he’s the only dog may be the best fit.Training and Skills:Hozier is house trained and has great manners in the home. He’s not destructive and settles in nicely. He rides well in the car, calmly sitting or lying down in the back. He enjoys walks and does well on leash. He’s also a big foodie, so he uses a slow feeder at mealtimes.Favourites:• His toys• Walks with his people• Car rides• Meal time • Hanging out with his foster familyDislikes:• Can be picky about dogs• Waiting for dinnerHow to Adopt:If you’re interested in adopting, please visit us at 107 McLaughlin Road, Lindsay, Tuesday to Sunday 11 am–6 pm, contact us by email info@hskl.ca or phone at 705-878-4618. Story
Juniper is a sweet, 9 year old female mixed breed dog. She had a rough start to life as a stray, suffered and overcame heartworm and has shown everyone who meets her how smart, gentle and funny is truly is. Although she has come so far, she still carries a lot of the baggage and anxiety from her earlier days. Junie loves to take naps, relax, stretch her legs and look forward to things in her usual routine. Walks, people and squirrel watching, stretching out on the couch. She also loves to be around friends, go to the pet store, the hardware store or Starbucks. She adores car rides and playing in sprinklers. Sometimes those fun outings can be overstimulating and cause her to become stressed and can also be stressful for her human friends. Her current foster parents have found out that taking time to introduce her to any new situation- allowing her to see (and safely sniff) a new place, keeping the first visit short and pairing it with treats, praise and patience can make a huge difference for her. She has time and time again shown that with each visit to a slightly less routine place, she becomes more comfortable and relaxed. And yes, we think her new adopters may even need to do this with their neighborhood coffee shop. Adopters will also need to pre-plan for potentially high stress situations where Junie may feel the need to act first and ask questions later before she understands what is happening. Asking people to give her space and giving her breaks when she needs them are very important for Junie. The great thing is: Junie enjoys being around friends in a predictable way such as having her mat to sit on with a chew treat when she needs a break from being a social butterfly.

Story
FOR ADOPTION: A few weeks ago, we introduced you to Rusty is a young boxer mix who was struggling in a shelter environment, overlooked not because he was a bad dog, but because he was overwhelmed, frustrated, and simply lacking an outlet. That was never the real Rusty. Since entering foster care, Rusty has completely transformed. With regular exercise, structure, patience, and love, his true personality has emerged and it’s impossible not to fall in love with him. At just 1 year old, Rusty is playful, intelligent, goofy, affectionate, and always eager to be part of whatever his humans are doing. He has settled beautifully into his foster home and has loved every adventure that has come his way from waterfront walks, to hikes, to tagging along on outings and car rides. Now that we’ve gotten to know Rusty better, we know exactly what kind of home will help him continue to thrive. Rusty’s ideal forever home would include: • An active family who enjoys long walks, hikes, and outdoor adventures • A family experienced with higher-energy dogs and committed to continuing his training as Rusty is incredibly smart and learns quickly • Another playful dog companion would be a bonus, as Rusty is very social and enjoys dogs that match his energy level • Older children would likely be the best fit because of his enthusiasm and size • A fenced yard where he can safely burn off energy and play A few more things to know about Rusty: • He LOVES car rides and dog toys • He is doing wonderfully in his crate overnight and when left home alone • He’s become very popular at his vet clinic and the staff absolutely adore him • He is happiest when included in daily life and adventures with his people His foster family knows saying goodbye will not be easy, but they also know Rusty deserves a forever family who sees him for who he truly is. In their words: “Rusty is going to make his new family VERY happy with his goofy antics and fun personality! He is always eager to please his humans.” Sometimes the dog you almost overlook… Turns out to be exactly the dog someone was waiting for. Story
Rambo is a handsome boy with a heart as big as his personality! This energetic boy loves to play, especially a good game of tug, and he’s always up for an adventure with his favourite people. At first, Rambo can be a little nervous when meeting new faces, but with patience and some tasty treats, he quickly warms up and shows off his sweet, friendly nature. He thrives in an environment where he can build trust and confidence at his own pace. Because he’s still young, Rambo can get overstimulated in new or stressful situations, so he’ll need a family who understands his needs and can help him navigate the world with positive reinforcement. He’s strong and can pull on leash, so ongoing training and structure will be key to helping him become the best walking companion. Rambo would do best with an active family who can match his enthusiasm for life, continue his training, and provide him with the love and patience he deserves. If you’re looking for a fun-loving, loyal companion, Rambo is ready to meet you!
