Story
A SHY BUT VERY SWEET GIRL: 3 years old / 45 lbs. Hi, I’m Gretta! I found myself at animal control afraid & alone. Thankfully Mostly Mutts came for me & with their patience, reassurance, & love, and I’m learning to relax as well as trust & love people. I got to participate in the prison/foster training program & learned a lot! Now I’m in a great foster home while I wait for my new family to come & adopt me! • OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS: I have not gotten along well with the other dogs I've met, so I would love to be your only dog. / Cats unknown. / I’ve met a friendly boy & girl who were around 10 years old & enjoyed their company. I have also interacted with children in a home setting & did well, although best no toddlers as I prefer a slow introduction when meeting new people. • PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL: I am in search of a confident & assertive leader as I respond positively to this type of energy. My foster family describes me as a sweet & intelligent dog who has quickly adapted to their routine. I have learned their names & regularly check on them to ensure their well-being. Once I establish trust with my human companions, I become affectionate & enjoy sharing my kisses generously. However, I must admit that I have a fear of unfamiliar traffic noises, & I prefer to spend my leisure time in a fenced yard versus walking on a leash. Thus, I am seeking a forever home with a secure outdoor space. My foster family has been patient & consistent in helping me overcome my apprehension towards walking & exploring new places. Through continued practice & fixed daily walking routes, my confidence in these situations will only continue to grow. During a brief stay with a temporary foster, it took me a couple of days to warm up to my surroundings, so please be patient with me. I enjoy engaging in a growly style of play when I am excited about a game, but I also love nothing more than snuggling on the couch while my temp family is watching TV. It is essential to note that I am not suited for an apartment environment. / My energy level is moderate, ranging from 5 - 7. • SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY: During my time at Mostly Mutts, I’ve participated in the Mostly Mutts University training program & have mastered the 'sit', 'stay', 'down', 'come', 'drop it', 'leave it', & 'place' commands. I also greet friendly strangers without jumping on them, & I practice proper door etiquette, allowing my companion to exit first. While I will need consistent practice to maintain my training, my foster reports that I am always eager to learn new things. / I have demonstrated a high degree of proficiency in crate training, both at Mostly Mutts & in the prison foster/training program. Additionally, I have adapted well in my foster home & have been well-behaved both during the night & when left alone for extended periods. / I have a solid track record of adhering to the shelter potty schedule & did well during my time in the prison/foster program. I also do very well in my foster home, though I don't bark to signal my need to go outside, I politely sit by the back door when nature calls. • LIKES/DISLIKES: I have a particular fondness for tennis balls, rope toys, & especially Frisbees! I enjoy catching the Frisbee & have been improving my skills at dropping it for another throw. I am an enthusiastic playmate & can be a bit needy in seeking attention from my humans when I want to play. I appreciate lounging in the fenced back yard & taking naps on the deck, which offers me a sense of safety & security. I am confident enough now to run outside through the doggy door to investigate squirrels or shoo away pesky birds, which can be amusing for me. I enjoy receiving belly rubs & especially gentle head massages. / Bath time can be a bit daunting for me, & I tend to growl a bit during the toweling off process, but I have learned to tolerate it with the help of some gentle hugs & encouragement. I dislike sudden noises & walking near traffic noise. I am not fond of unfamiliar people approaching me too quickly or attempting to rush through the process of getting to know me. Thunderstorms can be unsettling for me, but I find comfort in a cozy spot like a chair with a blanket, my crate, or under a bed. Since I thrive on love, attention, & training. Neglecting these needs would not be suitable for me, & I would not be happy in such a situation. • MEDICAL: I'm current on vaccinations, micro-chipped and spayed. I sometimes chew on my paws & take Benadryl as needed. So, if you’re a patient & loving leader looking for a great friend, let’s meet. Adoption fee $299.00, & I’m located in Kennesaw, Ga.June 8, 2023, 8:00 pm
