Story
Socialization:  Lena is a happy go lucky girl and absolutely loves meeting new people and other dogs. She can sometimes be too much for some dogs, but she takes correction very well from them. She adjusts to play speeds and styles very easily! Lena absolutely adores her people and loves affection. She loves snuggling up, giving kisses and cuddling in your lap. She also has no problem sharing her toys with fellow dog friends! We believe that she would do fine with children, but may need time to adjust, as she can sometimes get jumpy when she gets very excited! She's still got some puppy behavior and can be nippy at hands as well as clothes. Older kids, 12 and up would probably be best for her. She is not a good fit for a home with cats due to her prey drive. Training:  Lena can be very high strung at first, and it can take a minute to gain her focus. Once you have her attention, she is very eager to learn and please. The more energy she is able to get out, the calmer she will be for her training sessions. She is very intelligent - she knows sit and we are currently working on leash manners with her. She has already gotten the hang of not jumping up on people. Lena it is very treat motivated! She has gotten over most of her chewing - but we would expect there to be some regression of that in her new home. Blankets are a current favorite item of hers to chew on. Housetraining is going very well! She has pretty much caught on to keep her room clean and either potty in her run or outside in the yard. She may need to crated initially in her new home for own safety. Activity requirements:  Lena is a very high energy young brittany! She would benefit from daily activities that might include long walks/hikes (a few miles per day) and possibly another doggy friend in the home. The more energy she is able to let out, the calmer she will be inside. When she gets all the exercise she needs, she is able to focus more in general. She will need time to run off leash in a safely fenced area each day. Fence requirements:  Lena would benefit from a fenced in backyard with her high energy level. An underground/inivisible fence will not be considered. We may consider a yard without a fence if there is a solid exercise plan and the family has experience with a high energy breed. Personality:  Lena is a sweet and social young Brittany with a lot of energy! Once she has all her energy out, she does love to settle on the couch with her person and cuddle up. She's so little that she makes a nice little lap dog! She is playful with other dogs and humans. She's a tiny thing and very portable!! Could easily go out and about on errands or to dog friendly places! Health history:   Lena is spayed, microchipped, up to date on all her vaccines, and on monthly tick/flea and heartworm prevention. She was treated for Giardia when she first arrived . Her next Leishmaniasis test is due 2/17/2027. This dog originates from Greece where Leishmaniasis is endemic. They tested negative before coming to the USA, but the parasite can remain dormant in the system for many years, so potential adopters must be willing to commit to annual testing for the next 7 years. Typically, the test needs to be sent to a special lab, but any regular vet can draw the blood and send it to the lab. The cost of the test seems to vary widely by area, but is approximately $150-$250. or if your vet is willing to send the test to a veterinary college lab, cost can be as low as $80. Foster comments:  Lena was found on the mountain of Patras, Greece, where many of our sporting dogs are abandoned. She is a sweet and active young dog looking for an active family that can keep up with her! She would make a great running buddy and a hiking buddy. Lena will reward your efforts with so much love and affection!!! Foster location: Delton, MI Transport note: We are able to arrange volunteer transport to get dogs from their foster home to their adopter as long as the adopter and the foster are within a 1,000 mile radius of each other and the adopter is located in the USA. If the adopter is more than 1,000 miles from the foster home, adoption would only be possible if the adopter is willing to drive the distance beyond the 1,000-mile transport limit. Long distance adoptions may also be possible if the adopter is willing to pay for a flight to get their dog from the foster home to their location if the foster feels this is an appropriate arrangement for the specific dog. Canadian adopters would have to drive into the USA to pick up their dog, as we do not transport outside of the USA. ##2703784##
