Story
Socialization:  Clover is a sweet girl. She loves every single person and loves to snuggle. She has generally been good with the other dogs. She was a bit protective of her mom and her sister in Greece. When she first met the 10 other dogs at the house, she would bark at them if they approached her little family, but after a day of getting to know them, she was getting along well with everyone and starting to play. With the correct guidance and boundaries, she will do very well in a home with other dogs. She hasn't had a lot of exposure to children in her time with us, but she has been fine around the toddler of one of our Rescue Ranch employees. It is important to remember that she is still a puppy and could accidentally knock over a small child or jump on them for attention. We do not have cats at Rescue Ranch and have not had the opportunity to test her with them, but we have not seen much evidence of a prey drive in Clover. With careful introductions and appropriate supervision, I think she would learn to coexist well with cats... but we cannot guarantee this since we don't have cats with us. Training:  Clover is very smart. She picks up on training very easily. She currently knows "Sit", "Lay Down", "Place", and has a solid recall as well. She is very good on the leash, especially for her young age. She does not pull unless there is something that is very exciting to her in the distance. But even then is very easy to redirect back to you. She does not jump on people when she meets them. We are currently working on fun commands, like "Spin" and "Shake"! Clover does have the tendency to resource guard things that she loves at times, especially her people and toys. This is something we are working on daily with her, and I believe she will be perfectly fine with consistent training. Since she is very clever and eager to please, she can be quickly redirected if needed. Activity requirements: Clover is a very active puppy, and I do think she would benefit from a physically fenced backyard where she can let that energy out. Daily long walks would benefit her as well - A tired puppy is a happy puppy! She would also be happy with regular hikes and activities with her people as well as continued training and "brain games." Fence requirements:  I think that having a physically fenced in backyard would be great for Clover, but since she is doing so well with her leash-walking, an active family with a good exercise plan will also be considered for her. She has not shown any desire to climb or jump the fence, so a 4' fence would probably be sufficient for her (with careful supervision initially of course) and an invisible fence could also be an option for her given her lack of prey drive. Personality:  When we first met, Clover was a bit shy at first, but she has learned at the Ranch that people can be wonderful and has become a very affectionate dog. She loves attention and thrives on her one-on-one training time and leash walks. She also likes to play with her sister and the other dogs at the Ranch, but she's always up for a cuddle once she's had a little exercise. Health history:   Clover is healthy and in great condition. She is spayed, microchipped, up to date on vaccinations. All her tests were negative in Greece, although she did test positive for giardia after coming to the USA. She has been treated for that and we will do another test to ensure she is negative before going to her adopter. She is on monthly tick/flea prevention and heartworm prevention. Her next leishmaniasis test will be due in August 2027. This dog originates from Greece where Leishmaniasis is endemic. They tested negative before coming to the USA, but the parasite can remain dormant in the system for many years, so potential adopters must be willing to commit to annual testing for the next 7 years. Typically, the test needs to be sent to a special lab, but any regular vet can draw the blood and send it to the lab. The cost of the test seems to vary widely by area, but is approximately $150-$250. or if your vet is willing to send the test to a veterinary college lab, cost can be as low as $80. Foster comments:  Clover is a great balance of playful and cuddly. She has enough energy for long hikes adn adventures, but she's also very happy to settle down and snuggle with her person. She's also proven to be very smart and really enjoy her training sessions, so we hope that her family will continue to do active training with her. Clover gets very attached to the people (and dogs) she considers her family, and she will be a devoted companion. Foster location:  Delton, MI Transport note: We are able to arrange volunteer transport to get dogs from their foster home to their adopter as long as the adopter and the foster are within a 1,000 mile radius of each other and the adopter is located in the USA. If the adopter is more than 1,000 miles from the foster home, adoption would only be possible if the adopter is willing to drive the distance beyond the 1,000-mile transport limit. Long distance adoptions may also be possible if the adopter is willing to pay for a flight to get their dog from the foster home to their location if the foster feels this is an appropriate arrangement for the specific dog. Canadian adopters would have to drive into the USA to pick up their dog, as we do not transport outside of the USA. ##2830712##
