Story
Meet Nelson, or as his foster family refers to him, "Lord Nelson". Why?, you may ask. Because he is the perfect mature, well bred gentleman. Nelson longs to belong to his own "people". He is one of those Brits who loves everyone he meets - human and canine (we don't know about cats). But when he decides you're "his", it's a very close and special bond. He was a stray, so his true age is uncertain, but the shelter and vet estimated 8 years old. He weighs in at about 35 pounds and is a beautifully put together orange/white Brittany.  He is well past that crazy puppy stage and yet still welcomes any opportunity to play.  He is also extremely smart and food motivated so training is a breeze.   He learns very quickly and desperately wants to please. He bonds quickly with whomever he deems his master and will be a fantastic companion. He has been sleeping in a crate, but would be just as happy sleeping in your bed.  He is showing that he is crate trained and mostly housebroken. He has a nosy habit of needing to examine everything on the kitchen counter, so he'll need a little continuous work on that. Nelson has a real spirit of adventure. He loves going on errands in the car.  He is very curious and wants to explore everything, so a physical fence is necessary. Nelson's perfect family would be experienced dog owners with dedication and patience to learn his signals and habits.  He would reward such an owner with lifelong devotion.  He prefers to be close to his human - a velcro dog.  He wants that bond.  Other dogs in the household would be fine, but he would also thrive as an "only child".  Nelson is a dream dog with many years of love to give his new family. He is neutered, heartworm negative, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations.  He is currently located in West Virginia and available to be transported up to 1400 miles, with the adopter driving the last 100 or so miles.  His adoption fee is $350. If interested in adopting Nelson, please submit an adoption application at www.nbran.org and mention his name.  For any further questions, email jessica@thesouthernway.comJuly 26, 2024, 4:25 pm

Story
IS YOUR HOME SADIE'S PERFECT FUREVER HOME? Sadie is a beautiful 5 year old purebred 40 lb. liver/white female Brittany. She is spayed, heartworm negative, up to date on vaccines and on heartworm and flea and tick preventatives. This sweet girl is also housetrained and crate trained. Sadie is highly active and loves to explore outside. Her foster mom has never witnessed her digging or trying to escape and Sadie has excellent recall. Sadie would love to have a big yard where she could run and explore. With proper training and supervision, Sadie's foster mom thinks Sadie would be a candidate for an invisible fence. In true Brittany fashion, Sadie is both intelligent and eager to please. Sadie does pull when walked on a leash and even though her foster mom and dad are working with her, she will need continued and consistent training. Although Sadie will tolerate other dogs, she is not extremely fond of their company. Sadie would love a home where she has no fursiblings. She has lived in a home where she was the only dog and that is what she is accustomed to. If you are looking for a beautiful smart middle-aged Brittany lady and you want an only dog, then Sadie could definitely be your gal! Her adoption fee is only $350 (to help cover vetting and to allow NBRAN to help rescue other furbabies like Sadie). Don't forget that NBRAN will transport adopted dogs up to 1400 miles, with the adopter only being responsible for the last approximate 100 miles. To learn more about Sadie, contact Suzanne Horsley ztasuzanne@gmail.com or Deb Tuthill agilitybrits@epbfi.com                                                                                    July 26, 2024, 4:25 pm

Story
Hi, my name is Daisy and I'm looking for my forever home. I'm a Brittany mixed with red/white Irish Setter so I have long legs and a long bushy tail!  I'm 2 years old and very healthy, even though I was found wandering around on my own.  I ended up in a shelter and no one claimed me, so NBRAN saved me!  My foster mom says I am an all around great girl! I love everyone that I meet - all humans, kids, dogs and cats! I am playful and would love to have another dog playmate in my new home. I am also content to lounge on the couch.  I weigh about 49 pounds and can stand to still gain a few. Remember, I'm very leggy! I am really good left in the house, even without being crated, but I do a little counter surfing. So, that's a work in progress. I also might dig around in the trashcan if that's left out to tempt me.  I do great on a leash with harness and I don't test the 4' fence at my foster home.  I do know the command sit, but still working on not jumping on people. I just really love people, so I get really excited and don't understand personal space. I am very loving and easy going, and would love to be your companion!  I am located in eastern North Carolina and can be transported up to 1400 miles.  I ride great in the car, but can be a little timid about getting in initially. My adoption fee is $325.  If you think I could be your new best friend, please submit an adoption application and mention my name! Please message jessica@thesouthernway.com with any questions. July 26, 2024, 4:25 pm

Story
Ginger is her name, charming is her game.Ginger greets the world with a sweet toothy grin, made irresistibly unique by the few teeth missing. But those teeth don’t stop her from smiling, and neither do her ears, Ginger wears her half ear proudly, an adorable quirk that adds to her delightful charm. And as if she wasn't charming enough, this goofy girl has been known to tumble off the couch amidst her blanket shenanigans, proving that grace is overrated when you're having fun. She's the ideal home office mate — laid-back, happy with her peaceful snoozes, and always providing a good dose of entertainment. She’s sweet, silly, calm, yet full of personality. She's also a self-proclaimed food critic. She enjoys a good meal, a bit of a food snob, she loves her kong. She quite passionate about walks outside too, she lets you knows about that by dancing on her paws in excitement. All jokes aside, she’s a wonderful girl, one that loves deep, is loyal to her pack, and eager to be by your side, provided she feels you will reciprocate that warmth and safety. She’s becoming a confident dog in her foster home, she will love a home that can provide the love and comfort of being patient. New things are scary at first but ultimately she is so eager to please and thanks to her food motivation making great strides! She's doing wonderfully with crate training and house training too! Adoption Process If you are ready to meet the pet, please fill out an online adoption application by copying and pasting the following link into your internet browser: https://www.petstablished.com/adoption_form/10666/generic Once your application is submitted, we will contact the vet reference provided. If you do not yet have a vet, please provide three personal references – these could be family and friends who can attest to your pet parenting skills. A volunteer will schedule a phone interview with you. The interview and application help our fosters find their forever home by ensuring a good match.   The Louisa Humane Society does not have a brick and mortar facility, so all of our pets are in foster care. Once approved, the foster parent will reach out to arrange a visit. The foster family can tell you all about her likes, dislikes, and little quirks.  The application and visit do not oblige you to adopt, but if you’re ready to take the pet home as your furry forever friend, the adoption fee is $150. ##1912018##

Story
Penny is a 19 month old Brittany/Hound mix. She is UTD on vaccines, microchipped, Heartworm negative and on preventative.  She minds her foster mom really well and has great recall. Penny knows the command sit and is working on stay. She is not very vocal and does not bark much. She loves running in the yard and is good with other dogs. Penny loves her toys and she also loves treats. Penny is a very healthy girl. Penny's foster mom says she is not destructive and loves to lounge in her dog bed. Because she gets overly excited, Penny jumps on people, but her foster mom is working with her.  Because of her jumping, Penny will not be a good fit for a home with small children.  Penny is being fostered in Tennessee. Her adoption fee is $325.00 and can be transported up to 1400 miles via our Canine Railroad with the adopter taking the last leg, usually less than 100 miles.  Applications for Penny can be found on www.nbran.org.  For more information, email dltuthill@epbfi.com or ztasuzanne@gmail.com.  July 26, 2024, 4:25 pm
