Story
Lady needs a special needs adopter! She has not had an easy life and her own body has been used as a weapon against her until she was in a life threatening situation that landed her as a "stray in a shelter. Her own fertility used as a weapon against her that would eventually destroy her body - bred over and over again, pumping out puppies so that her "owners could bag some loot. The cycle continued until it ruptured her uterus and her vulva became infested with maggots. The heartbreaking reality is that this is only the start of what a lifetime of being used as a money-maker has done to her body. Life didn't need to be this hard for her. Lady made her way to us in Cincinnati Ohio all the way from Atlanta, GA. We don't typically have animals travel this far to us, but after seeing the post for Lady, we watched and waited for a rescue commitment to come. When a euthanasia date was added, we couldn't wait any longer for a savior we knew probably wasn't coming for her. The shelter put so much love and care into her, and we are so thankful they got her this far! They gave her life saving surgery to remove her ruptured uterus and provided care for the maggots in her vulva; they provided all the medical assistance that they were capable of. Lady was severely underweight, has terrible hip dysplasia and is incontinent. When she arrived to her foster home in Ohio, she received a well needed bath, was fed, and was able to rest comfortably at her new foster home. She is in her second foster home and is unfortunately looking for placement again. She isn't an easy placement, we know! But she's so worth it. She is truly the SWEETEST baby - so gentle and perfect with everything and everyone so far. She may be a bit different with some special needs - man her forever family is going to be so lucky. She likes to follow you around and give kisses, loves everyone she meets including kids. She is good with dogs and cats. She is finally making steps towards learning how to play. She is kennel trained. She goes to the bathroom on her own now but can't control it. She has a UTI and skin infection that she is working to heal up. Once the UTI clears the vet is wanting to add a medication that will hopefully help with having control over her bladder. Shes stubborn but hey, she's kind of earned it I think. She does need a break from her diapers to clear the skin infection. We did a GI panel on her that came back with Malabsorption disease ( A condition that prevents absorption of nutrients through the small intestine ) as well as pancreatitis (which should get better on new food). They recommend she stay on a prescription low fat diet. She may need this forever or just for some time- we don't know which yet. She loves dog beds, she loves to be taken on walks and is good in the car as long as there are layers down and she has a chew treat. Her current foster recommend to keep crated when out of the house, as she chews on stuff. She loves treats and chews and eating in general. Shes not a fan of being outside by herself, she likes humans near by. Very calm in the house, good with baths but an extra set of hands is helpful to help so she can give you all the kisses during. She is a GREAT DOG! She deserves love, safety and humans who appreciate who she is. She's not the easiest dog around but surely there's someone out there that is willing to go the extra mile for her? If you're her human(s) and you're ready to give this princess a life she's always dreamed of please fill out an adoption application!
